Salut a tous!
If you are a beginner or feeling non-confident, please join, but do understand that this is totally in French. However, you can certainly attend and practice your French listening skill. Just kindly tell everyone at the table and perhaps you will find that you are speaking French soon enough after a few beers ;)
O'Byrnes été choisi parce qu'il est grand bar/pub et il offre des ailes et des boissons spéciales.
Il n'y aura pas de réservation que nous ne savons pas combien d'entre vous sont intéressés à venir. Please RSVP YES only if you are for sure coming regardless of any plans or reasons. If you are unsure, then kindly wait to RSVP to not impact the decision of the ones for sure attending vs the ones who are not so certain.
Typically, O'Byrnes on the main floor is super busy by 6:30pm. However, O'Byrnes typically open their second floor just before 7pm and so being there by 6:45pm would help the group secure a table vs not. So I would recommend that the first person to arrive should save table on the second floor, the booth on the right corner most to minimize noise around the group as there would be plenty enough coming from the bottom part of the bar. I have used this booth before and we were able to fit in about 8-9 people and can accommodate more if you get chairs. Or if need be, the people can split off to other tables as members arrive as we have also done in the past. So if you see the chain closing off the stairs, then either ask the next waitress you see if you can head up now or just wait till they do open up. On a bad weather day, of course, you may find tables available on the main floor. If you come in and you see it is pretty empty, then check out the room to the right of the entrance or the many tables to the left as well.
Lastly, there is no event host for this French Chat. I don't think there is no need for one. Simply start up a conversation in French the second there are two of you. It is highly recommended that you update your profile with a picture so that others can try to find you in the bar. And if you have access to the internet, please post a message on this meetup so that others can get a heads up of your location.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please don't hesitate to send me a message.
In case you are wondering, here is the rational why O'Byrnes at 6:45pm was chosen:
O'Byrnes was chosen because they have a big place, offer happy hour prices from 2 to 8pm and outside of downtown, it is pretty central. Also, there is paid parking to the building beside, to the left of O'Byrnes. Of course, there are certainly free metered and street parking around the area after 6pm. You just have to be creative about it or arrive as early as possible.
However 6:45pm was chosen to accommodate those who gets off work later or live further from whyte avenue and need to get home before heading for a French chat. Most importantly, O'Byrnes usually opens their second floor just before 7pm and so there are still table to be had while the main floor tables may be all occupied.
If you work early the next day and you wish an earlier start, this exact meetup takes place at 5:30 every second week.
