November Book Club: The Windup Girl by Paulo Bacigalupi

Our book for November has not been decided yet.  If you have a suggestion, please leave it in the comments below!  For November, we are looking for a more recent sci-fi book.  The current recommendations are The Passage by Justin Cronin, and Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson.  On Sunday Sept 30 I will create a poll with the recommendations above as well as any from the comments to determine what our book for the month will be.

Update: The poll has now closed, the winner with 7 votes is the Windup Girl by Paulo Bacigalupi

See you there!

Aargh, woke up this morning feeling like crap. I just can't see me going out into the cold, cruel world today.

It was a pleasure to meet you all, I couldn't say too much today because I haven't read the book

quite fatigued from week of labor with hammer, shovel, chains --- yet discussion was enlivening, invigorating, and (when my head not pounding & room not spinning) that eggnog thing tasted sooo good. You guys were awesome. . . and since the girl had dog genes, will she be appearing in a dark reimagining of Spaceballs? with CEO of Monsanto as Dark Helmet?

Sorry guys - dropped the ball this month and couldn't finish the book in time. I look forward to January's meeting though! I hope you have a great discussion tomorrow.

Oops I didn't realize more recent science fiction. How about The Road by Cormac McCarthy, Robocalypse by Daniel H. Wilson or Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.

How about a classic like Dune,War of the Worlds, Starship Troopers or The Andromeda Strain?

Are we adding fantasy books to the club (Mistborn)?

    September 26, 2013

    • Matt

No, in general we will not be adding fantasy books. Last book club was pretty sparsely attended(only 5 folks there) and so we had only the two suggestions for books. There has only been one recommendation since, so for this month it will be an exception and stay on the list of options.

The Passage is great! If you liked The Stand, it's kind of along those lines.
