Monthly Discussion Group

  • Needs a date

  • Needs a location

  • Hi there - I am a musician at a local church and host a series of concerts throughout the year. I am going to start hosting monthly meetup discussion groups at the church to discuss specific artists and music genres. I'll have the piano out and welcome others to bring their instruments. Very casual setting, and will be by invite only. Just an idea to get out meet new people while listening to great music. My first one will be in September (date to be confirmed) and I'll be talking about new age artists and performing Yanni, Yann Tiersen and Loreena McKennitt. I will take requests and I am hosting a classical concert in November and around Easter time. Please let me know if you are interested in attending. dates to be confirmed.

Any pianist that would like to do Diabelli duets with a classical guitar?

What dates would work for people? Sundays are not good for me, but I'm free most evenings after 5 pm, a central location would be awesome. I'm open to any discussion about classical music or going to outings. Or really anything to do with music - I'm seeing Yanni (new age) in September at the Jube so if anyone is going would love to meet up before the show.

Also, hm ... I'm not sure if Roseanne Cash's genres can be classified as "classical musics" since she's more of country-folk-blue like ... but post it anyway. Have fun at Yanni's concert.

Of course she isn't. But this is one of the few music groups on here so.

Sorry gang, I sort of dropped meetup for awhile and am back. Anyone still up for monthly meets? I'm free tonight if anyone is downtown.

If you like the early twentieth century (in the genre of classical music of course!) I'll prepare 5-8 pieces of music [AKA Debussy, etc] you can choose from. I'll also play some baroque which means "old". Select a prelude and fugue from books 1 or 2 from the Well Tempered Clavier and I'll make preparations to make it sound acceptable as well as do an in depth analysis just in harmony class in the Royal Conservatory of Music. Tell me what you think.

    Cheers,
    John

That would interest me. I'd love to hear what you have to say. Can we settle on a date and subject? Concerning the later, I have a suggestion or two. First, the early twentieth century is a very interesting period for me. What was the idea behind the twelve tone scale? Why did people call Mahler a nihilist? (at least that's what I've read). I'm also interested in early music; anything from chants to early harmony.

If anyone else has ideas, let's go. I'd love learn more.

Hello folks, I understand you have a classical music Meetup and being classically trained since at a very young age I was curious if you need a Pianist and explain specifically what works or era are you focusing on?

I didn't realize anyone had signed up. I still need to put more thought into this as to when I can hold these at the church but please let me know your thoughts on what you would like to hear or discuss.
