IMPORTANT DATE CHANGE: November monthly meetup is being moved to Tuesday, November 13, because of Election Day on November 6. Everyone please go out and cast your vote for our future leaders. This election is probanly one the most critical elections that this country has or ever will face. Please pray hard and seek God's direction in your decisions. Then we can meet for dinner at Don Jose's on Nov 13 At our last meetup, several items were brought up for discussion .
We discussed the annual Christmas party and it was decided that we will combine our December meeting & Christmas party into one event to be held on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 9, at Advent Lutheran Church on Pinemont. It will be pot luck. Cathy will get more information to us about this event later, but please mark your calendars for Dec. 9.
Beatrice discussed our group collecting items to make care packages for troops in Afghanistan. As we are already near the deadline for sending packages overseas for the holidays, we are going to wait until after the cruise in January to do this. We would like to send packages to soldiers with Debra Phillip's son & to soldiers with Richard Holland's son. Richard Holland is 1/2 of the country music duo "Last Call" with whom some of you are familiar. I told the group about a charitable cause we can participate in now which is actually a fundraiser for us. It is selling sponsorships of wreaths to be placed at the headstones of our fallen military men & women at Houston National Cemetery. It is called "Wreaths Across America- Houston", and donations are only $15 per wreath. Our group will receive $5 for each wreath sold. Deadline is Nov. 20, so we don't have a lot of time. Also our group will volunteer & help out at the wreath laying ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 11:00 a.m. Everyone present agreed that our group would participate in these causes. I am setting up our info on the Wreaths website and I will send out more information about that in the next few days. Please forward the information to your friends, family, & coworkers. We plan to use the funds raised to purchase items for the care packages.
Love you all, Jackie
