Introduction

Got interested in complex systems in the 1980s following the likes of Santa Fe Institute, WESS, Principia Cybernetica and Wolfram. Attended first Australian Complex Systems Conference in Canberra in 1992. Check my new page for more.

How have you used complexity concepts at work?

I wish! I've spent 25 years trying to meld them in, but beyond the general understandings I cannot demonstrate direct application. However I continue to do unfunded research and hang out at MASCOS, the NKS Forum and ConwayLife when I can.

What Tony Smith is saying about this Meetup Group

Networking. Inspiration. Interesting stories. Informed feedback. A chance to keep projects ticking. Chipping away at issues which are not accessible to over-specialised reductionist approaches.

  • Hi Tony! I am a member but have never made it to any of the meet ups. However, your introduction happen to catch my eye in the email for the next meetup. If you do organise an atheist charitable group at some point, I'd love to know. I think it would be fantastic, and have long though that there weren't enough groups out there (if any!) that volunteer time and money and love simply because the need is there; not because a religious organisation promises a greater reward for doing good. Cheers!

  • Hi Tony, I'm booked in for this Thursday. I've been putting together some thoughts on meta questions about the cellular automata which I'm interested to send through for feedback shortly.

The Kororoit group interests me broadly, although I'm still unsure on the specific goals of the group. Work permitting I'm hoping to join the Emergence group soon.

  • Hi Tony,

I solved the problem with my password. I remembered what it is. Funny thing memory and a dementia combined.

    Regards,

  • Thanks for your kind words. I enjoyed our conversation and look forward to more.

On the subject of my understanding of how and why things have gone down, and continue to do so, you just migt be interested in an interview I did last year. A bit long, but not a bad first.

Looking forward to meeting up again sometime.

  • Hi Tony. Sorry I can't make tomorrow's meeting. I'll be in Canberra. Please note that we have been bumped out of the Brown Theatre up to level 5 - the Richard Newton meeting room behind the lifts. regards

  • Tony, Thank-you kindly for hosting us last night- I enjoyed it thoroughly ! Good venue too, though round tables are often easier- maybe a big square ?

    Cheers, heather

  • Tony, the message I posted was definitely in the system in the early hours of this morning. Do the greetings appear for just a short period of time and does the recipient
have the opportunity to delete them if they can't find their sense of humour?
