Dear Enneagram group -
We'll continue our series going over recent scholarship in social and clinical psychology - and its relation to the various Enneagram traditions. The topic of "ego defenses" - part of the foundation of Freudian theory - will be approached more formally than last time, with an overview of various attempts to define various hierarchies of defenses.
There will be a short presentation, along with some (samples of) experiential testing based on historical attempts to categorize the wide variety of responses to distressing situations that may affect on-going mental functioning.
We will also make time for some open discussion on how these defensive styles that can be identified relate to our knowledge of our own Enneagram types, and on how this knowledge itself can affect our lives.
All are welcome, and no preparation is asked. Please expect a discussion that will range from the scholarly to the more general.
Hope to see you,
