Sunset Kayak at Jack's Boathouse, Georgetown waterfront

This is a repeat of a June event because it was fun and enjoyable despite being a small meetup.  This meetup is entirely suitable for beginner kayakers.

Surprisingly, a good amount of metered paid parking is available close to the entrance of Jack's Boathouse.  Just make sure you are armed with change.

Plan to take 15-20 minutes to sign the required waiver and arrange your boat, so please get in line at 6:00 p.m.  I'll try to make a Meet Up sign so it will be easy to spot us.

Helpful tips: Bring hat, sunblock, dark glasses, quick dry shorts (you will probably get wet waist down do denim or cotton are not recommended).  There are lockers where you can pay to lock up valuables at Jack's boathouse.

If there's interest among group members, there are plenty of dinner options near the Key Bridge in Georgetown for afterwards...

The weather was perfect and the view on the river was absolutely gorgeous. Great dinner afterwards. Fun people.

Beautiful evening on the water, with cormorants, ducks, deer, blue heron and an eagle!

This iteration worked out a little better than the first time around. We had a few more people and a lot more conversation. Dinner afterward worked out well with fun conversation and good food.

Great group of people, a fun and adventurous kayaking evening with wildlife sightings, stiff winds and warm water. And the best part, great beer and crepes and conversation afterwards!

The forecast looks good for tomorrow...so unless something drastic changes overnight and I'll send another message out...we should be still on!

We'll probably be in line organizing boats till about 6:20-6:25 p.m or so. I'm not sure we will know which direction we are going till we discuss at the site itself...so try to catch up with us before we get on the water.

Hi there - Not sure I will be able to make it down there by 6PM. Will there be a way to find the group if one arrives on the later side? Thanks.

During the summer months it's usually around 8pm. Rentals are supposed to be returned 30 minutes prior to closing but I've never really seen them say "be back by 7:30" or anything like that. That said, I've never rented a boat from them so I rarely worry about it.

That said, Thompson's is a good alternative and may be cheaper. Not quite the same atmosphere as Jack's.

Thompson's is a different boat house... In August it should still be pretty easy to rent at that time from Jack's.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
