Silicon Valley Entrepreneur Meetup

GET SEED $$ for your Startup

Our speaker for Thurs 17 May will be Ralph Patterson.  Ralph gave a talk at the Angel Capital Summit in Denver in April. He spoke about “The Changing Nature of Angel Investing.” In it he described the growth of Super Angels & Micro VCs and the impact they are having on start-ups.

These two groups have eliminated the Catch 22 of Entrepreneurs: “You need customers to get money and you need money to get customers”. By investing in Seed level companies (those without revenue), they form a financial bridge between Friends & Family and Series A - Venture Capital Funding.

Ralph runs Bay Area Entrepreneurs Workshop that brings in domain experts to lead attendees through the process of creating the plans and documents that investors want. He said; “We use the same selection process that the typical “early-stage” VC would use and we think we have significantly improved the preparation we give our Start-ups. We are so confident that we can get our attendees funded, that we will invest between $10 - $20k in each one that qualifies for the workshop.

“With the rise of the Super Angels & Micro VCs, we believe that many more start-ups will succeed than in the past. And there are more investors coming. We have a list of 150 of them, and more are created each day” said Ralph.

Over his career, Ralph has been the CEO of a start-up (Headway Technologies), worked at HP for 16 years & Consulted for large (KLA-Tencor), and small companies (you never heard of). For nearly two years, he worked with Technology Ventures Corp (TVC), a government-funded company that helped entrepreneurs get funded by VCs. They had 358 clients over a period of years and 141 of them got funded. That’s 40%. Across the Bay Area less than 1% of start-ups get funded.  If you’re ready, come give us a try.
