White House Rally to Call for U.S. Leadership at U.N. Climate Talks
Climate, social justice, and faith-based supporters will deliver petition at noon event on Wednesday, Dec 1 Noon - 12:30 EST
Climate, social justice, and faith-based groups are coming together for a national day of action and petition delivery to President Obama's administration, calling for U.S. leadership at the U.N. Climate Talks in Cancun, Mexico in December.
What: Hundreds of activists will hold a White House visibility event to urge President Obama to lead on climate solutions.
When: Wednesday, December 1 from 12:00pm-12:30pm EST
Where: Outside the White House on Pennsylvania Ave
Who: Event co-sponsors include 1Sky, 350.org, ActionAid, Americans for Informed Democracy, Chesapeake Climate Action Network, Friends of the Earth, Global Warming Education Network, Greater Washington Interfaith Power and Light, Greenpeace, Hip Hop Caucus, Institute for Policy Studies, Jubilee USA, Oil Change International, Oxfam America, Peaceful Uprising, Public Citizen, and the Union for Reform Judaism.
Guest speakers to be announced by Tuesday, November 30.
At last year's U.N. climate talks in Copenhagen, the U.S. agreed to help raise $100 billion annually by 2020 to help developing countries cope with climate chaos, protect their forests and transition to clean energy. The U.S must lead developed nations by setting up a Global Climate Fund, similar to the current global HIV/AIDS fund, and mobilizing public funds to support and protect the world's poor.
To make sure President Obama hears a powerful grassroots message about the need to support strong climate finance measures, 1Sky, ActionAid, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, Jubilee USA and additional partners are coming together for this national day of action during the first week of the Cancun talks.
Several concurrent visibility rallies will be staged in select cities across the U.S.
For additional information, please contact Garth Moore, 1Sky Internet and Communications Director at[masked] or visit www.1sky.org/pressroom.
