Join Veggie Hikers, Vegan Spirituality & the “No Meat & Mingle” community for summertime fun! We will start with a hike and end with a vegan cookout at Sycamore Canyon State Beach. If you can’t make the hike at 10am, please attend the cookout at 1pm (and vice versa). Please be on time if you wish to participate in the hike. Sycamore is a gorgeous beach in Malibu, complete with trees and driftwood. No dogs are allowed on the trail or at the beach. See details about the hike and cookout in the "Notes from Hostess" section below.
**** Please bring a prepared, ready to serve vegan dish to share or vegan items to grill and share (veggie kabobs, vegan burgers/hotdogs, etc.), Vegan means no meat, fish, eggs, dairy or honey- No animal products at all. If everyone does not bring a food to share with at least 10 people, there may not be enough food. The $3.00 donation option discussed below is if you forget your own reusable plate and utensils. There is no donation option if you do not bring a prepared dish. Thank you.****
Please note that this event is promoted in various places so the actual turn out is likely to be bigger than would appear from the RSVP's here.
***This is a free event if you bring your own reusable plate/bowl, eating utensils and serving utensils. If you forget to bring these we ask for a $3.00 donation. Funds will be used to pay for Meetup dues, domain name registration, supply and other costs for future potlucks.***
***NOTES FROM HOSTESS: Park along PCH outside the entrance of Sycamore Canyon Beach, part of Point Mugu State Park. Walk down the trail to the beach, where we will meet to begin our hiking adventure! Find us near the “Vegan Spirituality” banner towards the south end of the beach. From there, we will walk north along the beach to the path beneath the bridge to Sycamore Canyon Campground, where the trail begins. We’ll walk through the campground to the trailhead and hike the Scenic Trail with gorgeous ocean views. This moderate 3.5-mile hike through a picturesque portion of the Santa Monica Mountains climbs 450 feet to tremendous vistas atop a ridge west of Big Sycamore Canyon. From here, we can see Point Mugu, the Boney Mountains, Sycamore Canyon, and the Pacific Ocean. Then we’ll hike back down to the beach for our vegan cookout, starting at 1pm!
To get to the trailhead: From Los Angeles, take the 10 Freeway west through Santa Monica and follow PCH northwest for 32 miles through Malibu to Point Mugu State Park. Drive 3.2 miles past Yerba Buena Road, and park along PCH outside of Sycamore Canyon Beach, directly across the highway from Sycamore Canyon Campground (intersection of PCH & Sycamore Canyon Road).
