Enjoyed meeting a few of you - in spite of the chilly day! I accidentally made off with a serving spoon - I think it was Eric's. I'll post some links and/or info related to our conversations. I hope to see many of you again soon. I live in Escondido and I am happy to host informational gatherings at my home. I also host social gatherings - the next one will be my annual ChristNukahStice party in December. Stay tuned...... Or be sure to friend me on Facebook. Or join my GrapevineSanDiego list on Yahoogroups for event notifications. All best to everyone, Helene Idels

I will be bringing something vegetarian, but not vegan (I have yet to find a good substitute for eggs in baking).

    1 · November 24, 2012

  • Helene

I see below that one member indicated bringing a vegan-friendly dish so I'd like to ask, with all due respect, since I am not sure where members of this group stand on certain issues, as San Diegans Who Care About the Environment, will this be a vegetarian potluck? I imagine we all come from different perspectives so just seeking some clarity as my preference would also be vegetarian or vegan. I hope to make it (willing to carpool from North County) and look forward to meeting you all either now or at another time. -Helene Idels (feel free to Friend me on Facebook)

Its up to everyone . The vegetarian/vegan friendly option is there. Unless someone is opposed to the idea of it being optional, of course. Bring what you want to share :)

Do people know what they can bring for a potluck picnic? We will need tables, and folks will need to bring their own chairs, plates, utensils, etc. (including napkins). I know I can bake something sweet to bring.

I have a couple beach/picnic blankets I'll bring & 2 chairs. Sounds like Stephen is bringing tables, but if that's an issue there's the option to move it east a bit to the picnic table area. The open grass and trees area you picked should be great if the table thing's not an issue.

Eric, that sounds great! A picnic on the grass (or in chairs, if people don't want to sit on the ground) is the aim. Thanks for bringing furniture!

If you do it on the 22nd there's also a an event called "San Diego's Largest Rally Ever Against Walmart" called by the San Diego Labor Council. Allot of your potential interested parties will possibly be at that rally instead including myself. Perhaps shoot for the 29th since nothing else is scheduled for that day by any other group.

the 29th sounds good to me, at least. We can bake some cookies and maybe a quick bread to share, and we'd be bringing our own chairs. 12 pm sounds good, because it gives the morning to set up.

So has it been determined that we'll have a picnic just before (or after) Halloween? I can help to organize it, but unfortunately cannot bring furniture (tables and chairs) except for a couple of outdoor (lawn) chairs, and there would be two of us attending. It would be a good idea for people to bring their own utensils and plates/bowls/cups so we're not producing a lot of trash.

How about a Halloween weekend picnic?

Great Idea! Halloween Weekend picnic at Balboa Park. I think we have enough people so say there is an interest in this event.

I will be out of town from the 28th September to the 17th of October. Would people like to try for a date close to Halloween?

How's late September looking? I originally thought about scheduling something mid-month, but I have things already scheduled then. I'd like to make it the 22nd, if it fits into people's schedules. Do people have outdoor furniture they can bring, like tables and lawn chairs?
