Need help shaking your addiction to the internal combustion engine? Please join us for our next Sierra Club - WLA MeetUp!
In the early 1900?s, Los Angeles had the best public transportation system in the country. Unfortunately, in the 1940?s and 1950?s General Motors, Firestone Tire, Standard Oil and others conspired to buy out the streetcar companies. Then they destroyed the streetcars and dismantled the rail network. But the trains are rising from the ashes! At the next meeting of the Sierra Club?s West Los Angeles Group, we?ll get an ?Update on the Expo Light Rail Line? from representatives of the construction company and the current Chair of the Sierra Club?s Angeles Chapter, Darrell Clarke. Phase 1 will travel along the Exposition railroad right-of-way between downtown Los Angeles and West Los Angeles and is due to be completed in 2010. Phase 2 will go from West Los Angeles to Santa Monica and plans are now being finalized. This event will take place at 7pm on Wednesday, May 13th, 2009 in the Uruapan Room of Culver City?s Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Hope to see you there!
Meet others "to explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth, to practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources, to educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment, and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives."
We meet on the second Thursday of the odd numbered months, i.e. January, March, May, July, September and November at 7pm at Culver City Veterans Memorial Auditorium in the Uruapan room, 4117 Overland Ave., Culver City 90230.
