Kevin Smith on webmachine

This location is shown only to members

Kevin Smith of Hypothetical Labs will be speaking about webmachine: an erlang REST toolkit which makes it easy to develop HTTP interfaces using Erlang.

Kevin is the author of the Pragmatic Programmers 'Erlang in Practice' screencasts series (one of the best resource to learn Erlang) and doesn't reside in Washington DC so don't miss this chance to come see him talk.

UPDATE: Good news! The DC ALT.NET and NovaLang groups have joined us for this meetup and will be co-hosting the event.

I thought Kevin was an OK speaker, but I wasn't really the audience for this presentation. I was expecting it to be more in-depth on webmachine, and less an Erlang primer and webmachine primer. I'm already pretty competent with Erlang and have been using it and webmachine for personal projects, so most of the talk wasn't useful for me. I got the feeling that maybe most of the attendees were from DC ALT.NET and/or new to Erlang though, so I'm not necessarily saying the way Kevin adapted the talk (from what I thought it would be on the basis of the original announcement) was wrong, just that I didn't get much out of it. I'm not sure about Kevin's presentation style, but I'd really prefer to reserve judgement and see him do a more technical deep dive style talk, which is why it's a shame (from my perspective) he didn't get to do that on this visit to the area, given that he's not local to us here in D.C./NOVA.
