VENUE CHANGE

From  Tuesday, 29 November Brisbane ESL will meet at

AROMAS  138 Albert Street

Between Elizabeth Street and Charlotte  Street

At the former venue, we cannot  meet in  the restaurant area, only outside.

Rainfall forecast  for summer this year is very much above  average.   A wet

walk through summer storms to and from the heart of South Bank is not fun.

At Aromas,  we have the option of outdoor,  indoor lounge,  or indoor tables.

Look for the ‘ESL’ sign on the table.

Our members are:

  •     All ages
  •     ESL students
  •     Visitors to Australia
  •     Former ESL teachers in other countries
  •     Residents who want to improve English language skills
  •     Residents who enjoy productive leisure time assisting others
  •     Residents and students who want to expand their global circle of friends

There will soon be several other changes to Brisbane ESL Meetup to improve the opportunities for ESL people to develop their English language skills. One of the objectives of the Meetup is to provide an oasis from commercial exploitation. Recently, network marketers, and others who have used the Meetup as a resource, (other than by sponsorship) have been removed.  Other improvements include the availability of learning material, more social events within the local community, and a new website to make life in Brisbane easier for ESL people.  The Brisbane ESL Meetup is developing a statement of objectives so that it attracts members who will constructively contribute to the group.

The two regular meeting times will remain unchanged.

Flexible start time. Come to the meeting room any time between   4.30 and 6.45pm.

We vacate the meeting room at 6.45pm but many members and guests continue at a nearby coffee lounge until 9.00pm. Gloria Jeans or Shingle Inn – depends which one has space.

We often use a Toastmasters activity and past IELTS tests. This helps build confidence in speaking English and in listening skills, even with limited vocabulary. We also develop strategies to improve writing.

This is a very supportive group environment that gives each member individual assistance to improve Speaking Listening and Writing.

At any meeting we practice what the members want that day. Some practice uiniversity seminars, job interviews, public speaking - even play writing.

Please tell us what you would like to practice.  guerdan@gmx.com

Improve English language reading, speaking, listening and writing - the fun way.

The group organises events where English speakers and ESL people meet to practice English language skills in a relaxed social environment. Whether you are a student, need better English for your employment, would like to assist ESL people, or would like to extend your social contacts, join us for chat with new friends and participate in one of our scheduled events. We all learn faster when we are enjoying ourselves. And that's what we plan to do.

Other activities:

  • Picnics/BBQs at parks and gardens  scheduled for the fourth Sunday in each month
  • Australia Day, India independence Day (and more) 26 January picnic/BBQ

This group attracts people who want to practice English language through friendly social events with local people, and visitors  who have English as their first language, and enjoy friendship with people from many cultures.

It doesn't matter how good your English is or if you are young or old. We are a mixed bunch and like meeting new people. Helping each other is FUN!

If this sounds like you then sign up for our group and tell us a bit about yourself - especially nationality, languages and what you would like from our Meetups. If you can upload a picture of yourself so we can easily recognise you, that would be great.

Developing confidence in communicating, before  developing a strong vocabulary,

permits faster learning of vocabulary. Check out the learning aids on the website

from the tags above                >More    > Files (dropdown)

One page has the 2500 most commonly used english words. The 2500 words ares et out in paragraphs.

Learn the most useful language first. Read through paragraph by paragraph.

The 2500 word list is set out in paragraphs. Be kind to yourself. Don't try to learn too much too soon. It is better to practice all week the words in one paragraph than to try to learn all words quickly. If you can use daily the words you learn, you will forget less - learn faster.

Members say that the Speaking Listening Writing Group has helped them improve their IELTS scores, job interview skills, communication at work and study, and public speaking/seminar skills. The meetings are informal - a relaxed and entertaining social evening. Everyone participates.

Great Picnics BBQs, fourth Sunday in each month. FOOD OF THE WORLD.

... and please RSVP.  To some folk it indicates how many are attending.

Most of us simply forget. Many times more come,  than RSVP.
