Developer Event: Learn Ethereum workshop and mini-hackathon

  • Sep 6, 2014 · 10:45 AM
  • The Coin Room @ The Escalator

This is a developer-only event, repeating every 3 weeks. Please insure you fill ALL required questions when RSVPing to guarantee your space.

Do you like the bleeding edge? Do you dream in statically typed languages? Do you want to be able to tell your children "I was there" when they watch videos of Ethereum circa 2014?

Then please RSVP to register your interest in attending a developer-specific event, focused on learning how to program smart contracts in Mutan (http://obscuren.github.io/mutan/). Leading the group will be one of our Core Developers.

This event will be provided free of charge. Attendance is limited to 14 for now. Unfortunately until we find a sponsor we won't be able to provide refreshments and food, but a cafe is available in the same building with vegatarian options if required.

We expect it to last a whole day, with 1/2 dedicated to learn everything about Ethereum, smart contracts and their decentralized GUIs, followed by a mini hackathon until max 9pm.

Level of skills required is fairly high as Ethereum is currently rapidly iterating over its software. Please insure you have the client installed on your platform before arriving. A step by step tutorial can be found at:

http://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/905/go-ethereum-cli-ethereal-simple-build-guide-for-osx

Ideal background would be 2+ years of GoLang development, although anyone who can fluently program in C, C++ or Java should feel relatively at home, too.

We reserve the right to refuse entry and will validate the guest list to make sure everyone has a good time with peers of the same skill level. Everyone who RSVPs will be contacted via Skype to coordinate the event.

HOW TO GET THERE

Once again, the venue and date is secured thanks to the amazing people at the The Escalator (http://www.theescalator.com/). Their twitter handle is @LondonEscalator

Once you are at the address (you can't miss it, it's a huge building!), enter the Cafe to the left of the big dog mural and make your way upstairs. There will be Ethereum signs, but not necessarily staff to welcome you as it's a Saturday.

Here's a link to handy map: http://bit.ly/theescalator

By Tube: Stop in WhiteChapel or Stepney Green, it's a 7 minute walk.

By Bus: 25, 205 and N205 all stop nearby.

OK guys, just a gentle reminder that tomorrow we'll be using AlethZero (the c++ client), and not the go client as per usual. Installing the c++ client from source is trivial thanks to caktux great scripts. I've posted a guide for OSX over here: https://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/1388/alethzero-super-easy-install-guide-for-osx

Hi folks, I'm a Web Dev used to working in PHP. Do you think I would be able to keep up at the event? Very keen to get into Ethereum..

You'll be fine. I think the hard bit is the application behind it all. The programming you should find relatively easy to get started with.
