Ethics and the Theater-Sin (A Cardinal Deposed) by Michael Murphy

(6:30pm reception - light refreshments)

Requested donation: $10; Members $5

The abuse of children by Catholic priests provoked outrage not only because of the crime itself but also because of the way the church hierarchy seemed to protect the perpetrators at the expense of the victims. Michael Murphy has crafted the transcripts of actual depositions by Cardinal Bernard F. Law, Archbishop of Boston when the scandal came to a head, into a gripping portrayal of how the pastoral bureaucracy came to fail the flock it purported to protect.

Pat Debrovner direcst. Cast: Bonnie Bean, Stephen Bradbury Jerry Chamlin Luke Hofmaier John Lovelady, Andra Miller, and Tom Weishaar. Stage directions read by Beverly Newman. After the reading participate in a discussion of the ethical issues of the play, led by Betsy Ungar.
