NOTE: Please be aware that this is not a huge location, so be conscious of that when you are planning your craft to bring (If you do not want to participate in the group project - see below in the comments for details on the group project). I am told this coffee shop is not very busy on Friday nights, so I'm hoping we'll have plenty of room. Maybe try to come a little earlier in the evening to grab yourself a table spot.
Come join us at 3 Roots Coffee House in Tempe! Grab a coffee and snack and feel free to stop by throughout the night. We'll keep this informal and fun. Bring your projects you are working on that you'd like to share. I think we can use this time to all talk, get to know each other, and just have fun. This will go from 5-8pm (I'm told they close at 8). I am told we just have to clean up after ourselves with any projects we are working on, so we may not want to bring paint or anything that might get too messy. I think this will be a really fun event, and I hope you all can still make it. I'll be compiling a list of all the people who attend and hopefully we can make this an ongoing type of event.

Posted by Katie Blueford June 18, 2010 at 7:56 AMTip on what kind of thread to pick out for the crochet necklace... I bought some nylon crochet thread at Hobby Lobby (positioned on an endcap) , which works great! I believe it is $3.00/roll. Also, if you'd like to attach a clasp to the end of your necklace, please bring lobster clasps, jump rings, and some clamshells to cover the knots.

Posted by Katie Blueford June 15, 2010 at 7:24 AMit's a fairly big space, but there is not a ton of table space. I think as people start showing up, we'll just spread out and take over the place! Don't worry if you dont know how to crochet, this is really easy. I'm not a crocheter either, and I picked this up immediately. It's really easy and it's a great summer necklace (I can't stop making them now!)
Ok, I can do that. thanks!
Posted by Waterrose Rose June 14, 2010 at 3:25 PMits just making a chain with a hook - its the first thing you learn when you crochet - very easy
Posted by Kim June 14, 2010 at 3:20 PMI barely know how to crochet, but will give it a try! This sounds like a lot of fun... How many people will fit at a time at this location?
Posted by Waterrose Rose June 14, 2010 at 3:18 PMdo you have to know how to crochet already to participate in the group project? i've never crocheted before, but it's something i'd like to learn. :)
Posted by nic June 14, 2010 at 3:04 PMIf this meetup gets too crowded feel free to head over to the one in Apache Junction. We'll be making fabric rosette brooches and origami gift boxes.
Posted by Stacey Millett Tippetts June 14, 2010 at 10:25 AMIf you would like to participate in the group project, we will be making beaded crochet necklaces like in this blog: http://rebeccasower.typepad...
You will need a Size E or F crochet hook, assorted beads (at least 50), thread to crochet your necklace with (nylon cord, crochet thread, waxed thread, even a fine gauge metal). You don't have to do the group project, but I thought this would be fun and doenst take up too much room to work on.
Posted by Katie Blueford June 14, 2010 at 8:09 AMHi Kandes - Feel free to invite the East Valley Artisans group!
Posted by Katie Blueford June 14, 2010 at 8:04 AMHello, I am the leader of the East Valley Artisans, an local etsy team. I know I would love to join you on craft night and some of my team members might as well. I will let them know about it.
Posted by Kandes Naylor June 10, 2010 at 4:10 PMI'm curious what the headcount will actually be...? I can't imagine how 40 people could fit into 3 Roots, especially for crafting.
Posted by denise June 9, 2010 at 11:03 PMOkay, so here's the scoop. We will be meeting at 3 Roots Coffee House & Cafe in Tempe http://3rootstempe.com/
It is located at 1020 S Mill Ave, Tempe, AZ 85281. It will go from 5-8pm, and will be sort of open house style. So, don't worry if you can't make it right at 5, still try to come! It will be a great time to meet everyone and talk about our different projects!
Posted by Katie Blueford June 9, 2010 at 9:11 PMHi Everyone -
I've been contacting lots of places where we can potentially all meet up. I have one tentative location, but it's not ideal time wise. I'm still waiting to hear back from a couple other places before I post where it will officially be held.
On another note, we made the TOP 50!
If anyone would like to pitch in ideas for the project, that would be great as well.
Have a great day everyone!
Posted by Katie Blueford June 9, 2010 at 7:37 AMI think we made the top 50! YAY!!!
Posted by Kim June 8, 2010 at 1:30 PMTry Escalante Ctr in Tempe. We use one of their rooms for free for Girl Scouts. I am not sure if there is a charge if you are not designated as a non-profit (GS is).
Posted by Heather C June 7, 2010 at 1:29 PMIs there a Golden Corral anywhere out that way? I know there is one by me in East Mesa that you can use the big room for for free. Maybe we can find something like that.
Posted by KeriAnne Thompson Zimmerman June 7, 2010 at 12:34 PMWhat about the Pyle Center? They have rooms that range from $5 to $30 per hour - [masked] is their number.
Posted by Kim June 7, 2010 at 12:29 PMOr maybe a restaurant type place - I know Meatballz in Ahwatukee has big tables and might work?
Sounds like fun. Let me know where we find a spot to meet.
Posted by Lindsay Anderson June 7, 2010 at 8:28 AMAlright, lets just get a few more people to help secure our spot in the top 50! You guys are great! I'm still working on a place, but if anyone has any more suggestions or offers of places to hold this, I would love some help. I contacted Kiwanis Park about one of their classrooms, and it would cost like $200 for 4 hours that night! I was hoping to find somewhere that would be a lot less expensive. Does anyone have a church in the area that has a space we could use?
Posted by Katie Blueford June 7, 2010 at 8:03 AM28 people! Yay - now can we get just a few more?
Posted by Kim June 7, 2010 at 2:05 AMI will share it on facebook
Posted by Heather C June 6, 2010 at 3:01 PMwe need to tweet to spread the word!
Posted by Waterrose Rose June 6, 2010 at 1:07 PMWe are about 70th on the list - if everyone can get a few more people to sign up today - then we can be in the top 50!
Posted by Erin Pezler June 6, 2010 at 12:50 PMIf everyone is game...maybe we can each bring something to snack on? If not, maybe a venue for people to bring their own food to eat while crafting.
Are we going to have someone maybe demonstrate a craft project that can easily be learned by all? Might be fun and get us all engaged. Just another thought. :)
Posted by Joanna Meyer June 5, 2010 at 10:18 AMHi Guys!
Posted by Katie Blueford June 5, 2010 at 8:02 AMI'm glad to see we are getting some interest in our Tempe area craft party. I'll check into some of the options for places to hold the event, and in the meantime, be sure to get anyone who's interested in attending to RSVP here. On Monday, Etsy will give FREE goodie bags to the top 50 meetups! So, even if you know people who arent positive if they are coming, be sure to have them sign up anyway. Feel free to post the info on Twitter, Facebook, etc.!
I'd like to know too! If we are doing something crafty that would be great. Im also interested in talking to others who are selling on Etsy.
Posted by Kim June 4, 2010 at 10:14 AMWhat actually happens at the meetup parties?
Posted by Linda Burski Johnson June 4, 2010 at 8:43 AMWell I don't get off until 8pm, so I hope everything is open late enough.
Posted by Morgan June 4, 2010 at 8:00 AMI'd say since we were having the get together at 7pm, we could even do it outside as it won't be hot. Unless we're doing something crafty that is.
Yes, I was going to suggest the Tempe library as well. They have really nice, big rooms.
Posted by Waterrose Rose June 4, 2010 at 7:57 AMIve been there - also Changing Hands may have a space to use. I have a couple more friends who would like to come if the event is in Tempe. Even Michaels or Joanns have class room space - thats possible, as is the Tempe Library.
Posted by Kim June 4, 2010 at 1:16 AMHas anyone ever been to the Paper Studio on Rural and Southern? I think they hold craft classes there and might be a good location to ask to see if we can use their space for our get together. Just a thought. :)
Posted by Joanna Meyer June 3, 2010 at 10:48 PMsaw on Etsy site: *Reminder: Work on those RSVPs for your Craft Party! The top 50, as of this Monday, June 7th, 2010, will be sent a giant box of craft party goodies!*
Posted by Kim June 3, 2010 at 7:41 PMAre we in the running?
What fun...I'm interested!
Posted by Waterrose Rose June 2, 2010 at 2:09 PMI am in Gilbert but Tempe works for me. I want to know more

Posted by Joanna Meyer May 30, 2010 at 11:43 AMLet me know if you are interested in doing the Etsy Craft Party in the Tempe area, and we can work on a location.
