Computer Science for Everyone’s Brain

Continuous Web is excited to host another event. Last month we introduced Joshua Johnson, the founder of Continuous Web and CEO of Mindbox Studios. Johnathan Curry and Joshua led a discussion on ways to build a stronger tech community in Eugene! This month we would like to introduce Kiki Prottsman, founder of Thinkersmith, a nonprofit organization designed to improve access to hands-on computer science education.

Kiki has an inspiring story about her personal challenge to embrace the art of computer science, and how it uncovered the need for community outreach. Making computer science accessible and comprehensible to a broader audience encourages more people to explore and appreciate the art.

Kiki has studied diversity in the field of computer science, and has insight into some of the reasons that the field hasn't appealed to a broader audience in the past. Thinkersmith reaches the Eugene and Springfield community with engaging, hands-on classes, inside and outside of local schools.

Thinkersmith and Continuous Web would like community support and feedback.

Please come listen and participate with your ideas and constructive suggestions.

Thinkersmith is looking for volunteers, as well as equipment donations.
Here is a list of items that they need the most:

A free hands-on Computer Science activity will be lead by Kiki.
Appetizers will be provided by Mindbox Studios.

I enjoyed hearing Kiki's story, and the hands-on activity was really interesting. I am interested in volunteering with Thinkersmith in the future, after hearing more about the events they are participating in.
