The Prompt Group

Welcome to the Evanston Writers Workshop Prompt Group.  One of two foundational programs of EWW, the Prompt Group is peer-led and takes place the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.  Members are invited to come with a pen and paper or a laptop and practice getting onto the page.  We share between three and six prompts a night, and write from between 5 to 20 minutes for each.  Writers are welcome to read out loud or not, as they choose; feedback is meant to be positive and call out phrases or word choices that stick out and please the ear.  This is not a time for critique, this is a time for practicing the process.  Writers are not required to share what they write out loud; getting onto the page is more important than performing.

If you have favorite prompts that you'd like to share with the group, please sign up to bring them for one of the meetings.  We are peer-led, which means folks have the opportunity to share their own ideas about what works for them.  Prompts can include specific direction, pictures, first/last line, or anything else that lends itself to writing.  Some suggested sources include Natalie Goldberg's book Writing Down the Bones, Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird:  Some Instructions on Writing and Life, and Christina Baldwin's Life's Companion:  Journal Writing as a Spiritual Quest.  You can also search the internet for "writing prompts" and there's a goldmine of material available.

If you are looking for new material to renew your writing process, some fresh ideas to incorporate into your projects, or just want to get some practice writing, then please join us.  Bring a pad of paper and a pen, or your favorite laptop, and take away inspiration and new ideas to tap into your creative flow.

I'm bummed. I thought I, finally, had the right opportunity to come to The Prompt Group but, now, I have to work. I'll keep looking for opportunities.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
