Junior League of Phoenix Inc (map)
Hi everyone - I'm Jennifer, one of this group's organizers, and I'm a member of the Board of Directors of the Junior League of Phoenix ("JLP"). I joined the JLP in 2007 with the hope of meeting new people, helping the community, and enhancing my resume. I'm happy to say that I have accomplished all three goals and continue to do so!
I wanted to post this Meetup to give you all the opportunity to find out about the JLP as well. Some of you may have heard of the Junior League before (especially if you've read "The Help"!) but today's Junior League has evolved from its past "ladies who lunch" image. In my experience, the members of the JLP are career-oriented women, many of whom are wives and mothers. We care about improving the community around us. Among the projects that JLP has helped develop (both financially and organizationally) in its 76 year history here in the Valley are the Ronald McDonald House, the Children's Museum of Phoenix, the Arizona Science Center, the Rosson House, and the Ryan House. We also helped bring the Komen Race for the Cure to Phoenix.
JLP is currently recruiting its class of new members for the 2011-2012 fiscal year (which will begin May 1, 2011) and is having several informational sessions where you can meet current members of the JLP and other prospective new members, find out more about what JLP does, and find out about the requirements for joining. This Meetup is scheduled for the first informational session, but if you're unable to attend, others are scheduled for the next couple of months. You can see the dates for the other informational sessions and download an application here: http://www.jlp.org/?nd=p_join_us
Unfortunately I have a conflicting meeting this date, so I won't be able to attend. You should definitely feel comfortable going, however, as there will be lots of friendly JLP women there eager to meet you! I will be in attendance at the Annual Meeting following the informational session on May 4. Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions you have.
