Announcing a new Meetup for The Winterthur Expat Meetup Group!
What: ChurWalden Hiking/BBQ/Rodelbahn
When: 12 July[masked]:30
Where: Click the link below to find out!
Meetup Description: OK guys, this is a bit more of an adventurous meetup than we are all used to, so I hope you will all support it and have patience with me as I organize my way through the details. The Meetup point will be in the car park right outside the outback pub at 7.30am, yikes a bit early I know, but we need to get going early on this one. If you need a lift e-mail me direct at [address removed] and I'll arrange who takes who with. We will set off and drive to Chur town centre ( about 1.5 hours ) where hopefully we can all park in the same place and from there get on the bus to Churwalden. From Churwalden there is a chair lift up to the top were you can go on the Rodelbahn a few times. Here is the site for the Rodelbahn if you don't know what it is. http://www.pradaschier.ch/rodeln.html
BTW it's the longest one in the world. I'd like to get there early in the morning as it's also very popular in summer and has ques in the afternoon. After we have all had a few beers and been on the RodelBahn a few times we can set off on a slow hike ( about 30 minutes ) to the BBQ place on top of the ridge. So you will need to bring something to grill like bread, bratwurst and a bottle of water/wine. Don't forget the corkscrew. After grilling there is a great hike ( about 1.5 hours ) back towards Chur Bergbahn ( mountain train ) which will take us down into Chur to pick up our cars. I know this is a great day out for everyone as I've done it a few times before. Kids are welcome, but would advise that it's a 6+ hike. It is possible to carry young ones if you can take the weight.
I will update this event as I get more information and feedback from you our members. Please e-mail me if you would like to come but would prefer this event on a different weekend. If enough people e-mail me I can change it backwards or forwards one week.
Here is the other website for the Bergbahn backdown to Chur. http://www.brambruesch.ch/
PS you can always try and walk down into Chur if you fancy it. I once had to do this after missing the last train at 5pm, it took about 2 to 2.5 hours.
