Inaugural Meeting

Hello!

Join us for the inaugural meeting of the Indy UX Salon. We've got lots of ideas for this group and we'd love to get your input on meeting topics, as well as the best days/times for meetups to come. So go give us your feedback here: http://goo.gl/nwYYW

We'll announce the topic for our first meeting a few days beforehand.

And in case you missed it on the group overview, our goal is for this group to be a place to connect with other UXers in Indy, share and discuss ideas, and talk about what's going on in the UX world at large.

We'll bring the beer + popcorn, you bring your thoughts and sparkling personalities.

See you soon!

First meetup was a great start! By the attendance it's pretty obvious that Indy has needed this group for awhile. I thought that small breakout groups plus plenty of time to mingle was a great format, it really helped to get to know people that showed up and to have some meaningful discussions. Speakers would be good to see in the future as well, but I definitely liked the small group format. Would be interesting to see what doing some kinds of workshop like activities would be like as well. The group seemed pretty diverse in experience and background domain, so cross-pollinating ideas seems like it will be particularly powerful. Looking forward to attending more and seeing what the future looks like.

I'm glad this was free form so we were able to meet a lot of people in a short time. I appreciated the complimentary beer and snacks as well.

It was well worth the drive from Bloomington.

Super fly. The first meeting was fun and well run. The event leaders did a good job fostering of a creative and interactive atmosphere with question/topic cards, badges with interests and beer. What is not to like! The next meeting cannot happen fast enough.

Great first event! I really enjoyed the small group discussion format, and had some good conversations before and after. Looking forward to next month, and to meeting more designers in town.

Nice meeting everyone tonight! Definitely an event long overdue for this area. I was a fan of the format for the evening, smaller groups help to facilitate good conversation as well as getting to know people. For anyone who is interested in following, I created a twitter list of people who's twitter handles are listed on meetup, if you're not on the list let me know and I'll add you. https://twitter.com/#!/mathewda/indyux/members

@Joanna: haha do you know of any good tree forts? I guess we could take a couple of Saturdays and build one as a group / team? haha that's hilarious!

Great idea Lydia! Indy so needs more UX discussion. Very out of the small box thinking. ;)

That's a great idea, to have articles fr/ major contributors that we read before meetings (and have reference notes for discussion) and then be able to get together to discuss strengths / weaknesses / issues w/ implementation. Good call, David

The tree fort reminded me of this article I saw awhile ago. :-) http://www.inc.com/joe-reynolds/the-case-for-building-your-employees-a-tree-house.html

I mentioned in my feedback it would be interesting to see how "UX" is implemented by the companies around Indy. Specifically I was reminded of these old posts by Jakob Nielsen. I think it would make for a good discussion topic sometime.

Tree fort or no, we're working on getting more women involved, for sure. If you know any women in UX, tell them about this group!

haha is this a boys club? Is the meetup going to take place in a tree fort?

    June 7, 2012

  • David B.

    That's correct, Stephen!
