Join us on Thanksgiving Day if you'd like to spend the morning or the whole day with your cycling friends for a bike ride, lunch and a movie afterward. You can join us for the whole excursion or for any part of it:
Part 1 - bike ride from the North Hollywood Metro Station to the Chinatown or Union Station Metro Station (about 1 1/2 hours);
Part 2 - lunch in Chinatown (about 1 1/2 hours) - order what you want or share the dishes;
Part 3 - bike ride from Chinatown to North Hollywood Metro Station (about 1 1/2 hours) or ride the Metro (about 1/2 hour from Union Station to North Hollywood Station);
Part 4 - see a movie after the bike ride - movie title to be determined.
Whatever you want to do is fine - everything is completely flexible. You might want a morning bike ride to burn a few calories before your Thanksgiving dinner later in the day!
The bicycle ride is from the North Hollywood Metro Station to Chinatown. When we get to Chinatown we will have lunch at Hong Kong BBQ Restaurant (formerly known as Sam Woo Restaurant.) We previously rode this bicycle route on October 20, 2012, and it got rave reviews. We will be doing it again on Saturday, December 1, 2012 so don't worry if you have to miss this one. The ride is very pleasant and is suitable for all levels from beginner to advanced. Please join us!
MEETING TIME IS 9:30 AM
Please arrive early to get ready for the ride. We will meet outside the entrance to the North Hollywood Metro Station at 9:30 AM.
We will depart promptly at 10:00 AM.
You can either travel to the North Hollywood Metro Station starting point on your bicycle or by driving your car. There is free parking at the North Hollywood Metro Station. If you arrive by Metro, the North Hollywood Metro Station is at the north end of the Red Line. Please allow at least one hour or more for the Metro ride to the North Hollywood station because you never know how long it will take to get there from your starting destination.
From the North Hollywood Metro Station we will take a 16 mile leisurely bike ride to Chinatown. We ride from the North Hollywood Metro Station along the new Chandler Blvd. bike path - transitioning through a couple of peaceful residential streets to the Los Angeles River bike path. We will be passing by Griffith Park and the Elysian Park neighborhood, and suddenly after going over a bridge and then a sharp turn we arrive in Chinatown! Since we are riding along the bicycle path most of the way there is very little traffic to deal with.
We won't set any speed records and will likely be traveling around 10 miles per hour. The bike ride will take around 1 hour and 30 minutes.
After lunch you can decide to join us riding back on bicycle to the North Hollywood Metro Station, or call it a day and return back to the North Hollywood Station via the Red Line Metro from Union Station. If time permits you can make a short detour and walk down Olivera Street, one of the oldest cobblestone streets in Los Angeles with many interesting booths and snack stands on each side.
- North Hollywood Metro Station to North Keystone Street along Chandler Blvd bicycle path (2.5 miles)
- N Keystone Street to West Riverside Drive (1 and 1/2 miles)
- West Riverside Drive to Los Angeles River Bike Path (2 miles)
- Los Angeles River Bike Path to Riverside Drive (7.5 miles)
- South Avenue 19 to Pasadena Avenue (1 mile)
- North Broadway to Chinatown (1 and 1/2 miles)

Please be advised that a helmet is required, and you must be at least 18 years old to ride with our group. Bicycle riding has risks of injury, and you are responsible for your own safety.
After 16 miles of bicycling (and to fuel for a possible additional 16 miles,) we'll be ready for lunch at Hong Kong BBQ Restaurant. You may want to try their congee and noodle dishes or a variety of other Cantonese dishes including roast duck, fresh Talapia fish, Chinese broccoli, and more. You can order either family style and share dishes - or you can order your own meal separately.
