This year we will be heading to the Sacramento NWP earlier than in previous years. November and December are considered to be some of the best times for viewing wildlife, so take a day off from the hectic hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping and get outside for a day at the Refuge.
The best wildlife viewing time is in the early morning and late afternoon, so we will be meeting at 1:00 p.m. to catch the late afternoon activity. Have your telephoto lens with you, but come prepared with wide angles for scenic and landscape shots as well. Beanbags work really well on the window of your car for stabilization. We will hopefully have a beautiful sunset with thousands of birds to photograph against the setting sun.
There is a six-mile auto tour at the SNWR and the fee is $6.00 per vehicle, unless you have an Annual Parks Pass. You will probably want to do the loop maybe two or three times. There are also Discovery Walks that offer a place to stroll and see wildlife in two locations. Otherwise, please be aware that you may not get out of your vehicle to shoot photos.
We will meet in the parking lot at the SNWR at 1:00 pm, allowing time to answer any questions and consolidate into as few cars as possible to minimize our impact at the Refuge.
