About Eye for Life & The Course.

Eye for Life came about through a combination of careers as a coach and photographer/photojournalist. Traditional photography classes can be technically overwhelming and whilst the core skills are not ignored a more mindful approach to exploring your own creativity is taken during the Eye for Life workshop

The Eye for Life course focusses on the photographer as well as the camera.  We look at the photographer’s purpose and drive as well as covering the traditional fundamentals of photography.  We believe that everybody has a core identity that fuels their creativity, making you unique. Our approach is to help you to recognise this and apply it to your photography.  You will see that by drawing parallels with your home and work life you can make changes in those worlds too, not just through the camera.  This course is so much more than just teaching you how to use the buttons on your camera and how use creative techniques, It's also a course that teaches you to use the most original piece of kit we all own. You! Participants gain the grounding to empower themselves, challenge themselves and find creative meaning in their images and in turn enrich their own ' Eye for Life'.

Bio - Mark Gillett

Mark is a travel, adventure race and event photographer/filmmaker.  With over 30 years experience in the business he has travelled and lead team expeditions to some of the World's most remote and beautiful corners.  Driven with the inner need to experience and explore, Mark's fascination for our planet and all the life that inhabits it can clearly be felt in his work.  Inspired further by people such as Chris Bonnington, Ranolf Fiennes, Doug Scott, Jacques Cousteaux and the Apollo Mission, he has been able to push himself to live life to the fullest, using photography to express his passion for the world we live in.  Featured in many domestic and worldwide publications; The Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph, CNN, El Mundo and Geographical to name but a few, Mark continues to supply the world's media with amazing visual content.  Aside from photography and driven by his inner desire to help other people, Mark is a life and business coach with more than 20,000 hours coaching in his career.  So with an extensive history of leading expeditions, photographic assignments to some of the most remote places, and his knowledge of effective coaching, this puts Mark at the forefront of this type of course where photography meets self development.

Who is this course for

This course is for anybody who owns a DSLR camera and understands how to use most of the basic functions (the shutter button) but wants to learn more about what their cameras have to offer. It's also for people who want to learn how to take a photograph with personal creative meaning.  Also as editing and photo re-touching will be covered, participants would be expected to have some experience with uploading, performing basic enhancements and exporting their photos.  Most of all this course is for people with a love of photography, a desire to explore and a willingness for continual personal development.

Details of the course

Eye for Life is a 6 week course that will run early 2014 (tbc).    The vast majority of the course will be field based learning with some classroom time spent for the photo selection/editing and group discussion elements of this course.  Each session will be 3-4 hours long at the weekend.  Day to be confirmed dependent on majority preference at the time of registration.

Until the course begins we will be hosting regular social and photography meetups, so please watch out for these and come and join us.  A summary of the 6 week course content will be submitted shortly.

This is more than just a workshop where once it's over it's over.  By harnessing the power of social media, we want to build a community of like minded people who share the same interests in photography, ongoing personal development and a lust for adventure and fulfilment.  This workshop will not be a stand alone course, as we have other workshops designed to build and further develop the skills and confidence you learned from the ones before.  Eventually we hope to offer those people who have completed the workshops, the opportunity to join us on a working photography expedition where we will either cover a specific foreign commission or an adventure race in a far away land!  Watch this space as there's some exciting learning coming your way and maybe some life changing opportunities if you choose to take them.

How to register

First of all join the Eye for Life Meetup group so that you can become one of our community and also to make it easy for us to communicate with you.  Next you need to confirm your registration by clicking 'Yes' on the 'will you attend?' button.  Payment for the course will be taken via Paypal and places are allocated on a first come first serve basis.  The cost of the course is £200, payable upfront in full.  Once you have confirmed your attendance and payment has been received, your place will be guaranteed.  We do not offer a refund on cancellations for this course unless we can fill your place with a replacement from the waiting list. In some circumstances we will transfer your booking onto a later course. A small admin fees may occur to cover the Paypal refund transfer charges where applicable.
