Night Visit to Double Buttes Cemetery

I apologize for the last minute change.  I haven't heard back from the member who suggested this location. I don't want us to get there and not be able to get in.

Double Buttes is a pioneer cemetery with many well known Arizona pioneers buried in it. I changed the start time to 6:30 so we will have more daylight time to read the headstones.

It says it is open sunrise to sunset. There is no fence or onsite caretaker. If we are quiet and respectful the worst that could happen is we could be asked to leave when it gets dark.  It's a small place so an hour would be enough time to investigate.

It's on the S.E. corner of 48th and easy even for some one like me who gets lost everytime I come to Tempe to find.

Paula, sorry you had tire trouble, I know you will catch us on the next one. Colleen, I hope you get to feeling better and can join us next time. Jeanne and I had a good stroll through the cemetery, and took some video and audio.

Did anyone make it to RH last night and did you get in without difficulty? How did DB go? Any interesting incidents to share?

I'm so sorry, but I'm unable to make it. I tried to get in my car to go, but I am not feeling well. Good luck

I was hoping to make this one.....I may stop at Resthaven (65th ave & Northern) around 9pm with a few friends. Depends on how things go.

I moved it because I didn't feel comfortable going to RH after hearing about some one being asked to leave in the middle of the day. If you want to let me know a safe way to get in at night after they close I can try a RH meet up again.

I'm going to have to take the "scenic route" too. The 30 minute drive turns into a 1:30 stop and go drive. Oh well........

Wouldn't you know it. The one time I pick a meet up site that is right off the 10, the city closes the freeway for electrical work. LOL

The Casey Moore House is in old Tempe, at 850 S. Ash Ave, about 3 miles from the cemetery. They are open until 2:00am and serve a late dinner. The one negative is you have to make thru a very smoky patio in order to get inside. I hope the ghosts that live there don't need to breathe. LOL

Then let's plan on it. I will be sure to get the address posted.

The original owners of the "haunted" Casey Moore House in Tempe are buried at Double Buttes. If we are up to it, we might want to drop by there for a drink on our way home.

Jeanne, sorry I didn't get back to you about Rest Haven. My sister in law has been in the hospital and I have been sitting with her. I think Double Buttes is a good choice, I'm looking forward to it.

I really was asked to leave during the day but it was years ago (maybe 5 or so). Just do not say I told you so if asked to leave. I am wondering if there is any posting of needing permissions after hours as there is at tombstone. Actually all cemeteries are trespassing after hours and you can be fined or put in jail. Sorry guys I did not mean to put the kabush on anything. There has been a lot of vandalism and stuff so I think that is why. I know as a kid I used to take a short cut through the complementary near my house all the time and never got in trouble for it. I am still in if headed to Resthaven will not make it to Double Butte unless I can car pool, I have no clue how to get there nor do I wish to try it by myself.

R.H. says it closes at 5. We definitely need to go there to check for access.

Thanks. When are you thinking about us going? Double Buttes is an old pioneer cemetery with a lot of well know AZ pioneers buried in it. It is small with open access and no care taker on site.

Jeanne, I can go with you to check out Rest Haven, to rule it out or not.

Let me know by the end of the day if you prefer Resthaven or Double Butte. I will go with the majority vote.

Changing the location is fine with me.

Liz said she went to Resthaven alone in the middle of the day to take pictures and was asked to leave. It will be still light at 7pm so I had thought we would be okay. Thanks for being flexible.

Double Butte is near Twin Butte where we are going in June. It is an older cemetery.

The feedback I am getting on Resthaven has me concerned. I don't want to go somewhere we have to sneak in or risk arrest. Would any one object if I changed the location to Double Butte in Tempe.

Are your Tombstone pictures ones you can post on our site?

    April 27, 2014

  • Jeanne M. O.

I have never been to Rest Haven. It was suggested by a member. I have to do a site survey. The cemetery we are going to in June on Friday the 13th is old.

Most cemeteries will ask ghost hunters to leave as they view it be disrespectful. That's why we are always discreet.

I have been here before but was asked to leave in the day time. I love cemeteries, the ones back east are so old and informative.

PS ask me to show you some of the pictures I took from the cemetery in Tombstone, the real cemetery at night.
