The D Las VEGAS AIMS To Break World Record For Largest Speed-Dating Event

Downtown Hotel Hosts Valentine’s Day Date-A-Thon

LAS VEGAS – January 14, 2014 – This Valentine’s Day, the D Las Vegas invites singles hoping to be struck by Cupid’s arrow to meet their perfect match while breaking the world record for the largest speed dating event at the D Date-a-Thon. From 6 – 9 p.m., 1,000 romantic hopefuls will have the opportunity to meet that special someone while enjoying $1 drinks, giveaways and more.

In an attempt to break the world record for the largest speed-dating event, the downtown property is partnering with SpyOn Vegas and X107.5 KXTE-FM and collaborating with speed dating organizations Pre-Dating and Lock and Key to create a Valentine’s Day to remember. The event will take place on the Fremont Street Experience in front of D Bar. Each participant will date 24 people for 3 minutes each in hopes of finding a Valentine’s Day date.

Participants will enjoy $1 drinks and music throughout the event and some lucky winners will walk away with a staycation package to return to the D with their new loves! Staycation packages include a 2-night stay in the D’s recently remodeled rooms, dinner at the award-winning Joe Vicari’s Andiamo Italian Steakhouse and tickets to The Scintas. Following the event, guests are encouraged to rendezvous with their newfound crushes at LONGBAR.

The event is free but all participants must register. Interested singles can sign up at vegasspeeddate.com or theD.com

prior to the event. Registration will also be available on-site beginning at 4 p.m. Must be 21 years or older.

Yes. A small fee could help it get organized!

Just reading thru some more comments I'm a little surprised that it seems to be a big deal whether someone "abandoned" the event or not... who cares whether someone left early.. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think most people went there with the hopes of meeting someone they might like that's exactly what I did and when I met someone I liked I didn't feel the need to have to try and find more ladies
as I was already satisfied with the person I met (and apparently so was she) so we left

well, the true reason for the event was to break the world record, the bonus was if you got lucky enough to really connect with someone! Awesome that some of you connected right away.

      good for you

Good for you Edward S. "Love is in your heart, you either want to give it to one person, or you don't !
Glad you met someone you liked.
When will they do this event again?
They should do it once a month!

Thanks for your comment. Well, I feel fortunate that I found someone- and so quickly-- we are still dating every day Although I've never been to another speed dating event here in the America i have seen other much smaller speed dating events advertised but yeah, it probably would be good for them to do that once a month on Fremont street, but with better organization (and they could probably take a small fee too)

Omg..... I can't believe that everybody is complaining about this. You do understand this was not about getting hooked up but about breaking a world record. They don't care if you got hooked up or not.

I posted the link in a post above where you can get ahold of the person who was running the speed dating. Did you go through the thread and find the link?

I don't know the number, but I saw it on the 10pm news, they were still counting but seemt o think they broke the record

      February 17, 2014

  • Mickie C.

Yes, I do agree they lacked organization. They needed more people to help with the event too. However, it was to break world record & as far as I know they did. Yay! And hopefully you all were at least able to make a few new friends. ;)

Yes, it was definitely Fun and DIFFERENT - just a shame someone didn't really think it through a bit better, to make sure we DOUBLED the record and made people happy ALL in ONE go! :)

There is a speed dating meetup group here in Las Vegas. 2 age groups 25-35 & 36-55 I think. The next one is scheduled for March 1 for 35+. There's also a group called "lock and key" that does them. Once you find the speed dating meet up you'll be able to find all the other information.

    February 17, 2014

  • Carolyn

Yes, the lack of organization was overwhelming. I did like a few people that I met, so am I ever going to be giving their contact info? We all turned our papers in, but I highly doubt that the "organizers" are going to do any data entry and get back to me with my matches. I wish I had just asked the guys for their phone numbers!

I'm not so sure about the picture and just your first name on a card, I own a business so having business cards on me all the time is just a smart business owner thing to do. About speed dating, yes it is fun and I've participated once before the only problem that I see is that there are not many speed dating events here in town for my age group which is a shame. I see a lot for the 20-30 crowd, but it seems the 40+ crowds just gets left behind........Maybe one of the 40+ singles meetup group can get one together.......

and yes, she was the only person I spoke with

    February 16, 2014

  • Edward

yeah, we left before it actually got started lol

    February 16, 2014

  • Edward

From everyone's comments it was apparently unorganized and very few satisfied people-- however, for me, I went over to sit in an open seat and noticed whom I think was the prettiest lady (and funnest- she was dancing before the thing started) and sat down and we talked for 15 minutes-- and hit it off so well that we exchanged telephone numbers- and then I told her I was satisfied and was leaving- she decided to come with me and we had dinner, a date last night and will probably meet again this evening lol So it was a great success for me personally...

    2 · February 16, 2014

    • Colin M.

hmmm, so your position did NOT count towards the record attempt and you didn't speak to any more than ONE person?

      February 16, 2014

  • Colin M.

Ok, not sure if we broke the record and not sure if the matching will work - seems my online registration did not show up?

    February 15, 2014

    • Yukari

No, they wanted to leave there right a way to go to the bar. It was just started. They didn't have a paper. It seemed they just wanted someone for this trip. They were totally not my type. They left there after They asked me about Vegas info.

      1 · February 16, 2014

    • Colin M.

oh, not even there to SUPPORT Vegas in getting the record! :(
at least this CA girl seemed fun and got involved! :)

      February 16, 2014

  • Janis B.

Three minutes went by and when it came time for the man across and and to the left of me to move in front of me he said he was not finished talking to the woman he was talking to . So I had no one to talk to for three minutes or more! He was very rude. Then he changed seats when he felt like it . He thought I would be so happy talking with him. Wrong!
In the future you will need some speed dating police lol to keep the flow going! ( lol)

Glad to read all of your comments about the event. Perhaps we should have a Meetup discussing the best way to meet others, and share experiences from OK Cupid, POF, Craigslist or personal ads, etc.

I think it's a great idea! I REALLY don't like dating website and the groups that I am in are people I already know, I want to meet new people, just not sure how we are to get to that point....

      February 15, 2014

  • maureen

It was great that so many showed up, but, it lacked organization! To speak to someone 20 years younger is not a match! Tables should have been organized by age groups! Also, it was impossible to talk over the loud music! This setting was not ideal except for pure publicity!
    Interesting but not successful!

    1 · February 15, 2014

  • Janis B.

I did not mind waiting. But, after an hour and a half I think the person you were facing should have moved "left" at the start-up. ( I knew everything and more about them). The noises from the music were overpowering , making it to hard to hear. I think it would have been better if the first table was for a twenties age group , second table thirties age range and a forth table for the forties. AND, the last table a fifties or sixties group. I still enjoyed it and had a LOT of fun!

I'm trying to plan what to wear. My question remains: Is this outside or inside? Can somebody please tell me? Thanks.

    2 · February 12, 2014

Maureen, I must disagree with my very aware and kind friend Colin, because I'm also picky when it comes to choosing a romantic partner. My advice is to realize that since you do have a certain requirements, don't settle on the 1st offer, but spend a great deal of time searching all possible avenues.

Come along this Thursday, 7pm, to find out more, Understand yourself and ya fellow "humans beings" better! :)

I checked with the original organizers of the event. They aren't going to be able to do much pre-screening of our matches. It's a numbers' game; the more people you meet the more likely you are to find compatibility. The more picky you are, (as I am) with the more requirements, the longer it will take.
