I started this group to help families around Canberra get connected.
Canberra is full of new arrivals, newborns (hello baby boom) and people whose people keep moving away. (Thanks, Canberra.)
Parenting or becoming a carer is a busy and often isolating ride. It can take far too long to get set up with a "circle", or circles can change when your circumstances do.
Meanwhile, meetings with other families, parents and carers around the place...often in the same boat...can be so very transient.
Well, kids nagging to leave, and hollering babies aside: I think shyness has a little bit to do with it.
We might meet a potential friend while we are at the park or cafe, then never see them again - because Canberra is *just* big enough for that to happen. (Just.)
What really breaks my heart is seeing several new mothers all sitting alone with their babies, at separate tables of the same cafe. Chances are: it was difficult getting out the door; this is their first outing in a few days; and one of the reasons they were heading out was for some grown up conversation.
While we may make friendly conversation, and meet some lovley people out and about - it is hard to go the extra mile. So perhaps online might be a good way to meet more people who are also keen to make more friends.
Calling all parents, carers, grandparents, aunties, uncles and families of all shapes, sizes and origins. This group is for you.
As a member, you can schedule, not just "suggest" a meet up. You can also change the time, date, location as needed.
So please, *please* jump in there and post if you are looking to make new friends.
Please do jump in there, don't be shy! And please do post on the message board or email me with any and all suggestions for the group.
I am very keen to know what uses there could be for it, what there's a "need" for, how to best reach people, or any other ideas. Thanks for stopping by.
