Hi all,

I have been wondering, why are there so few online stores from indie fashion designers? Is it because they are afraid of cannabalizing their retail outlets or they just don't bother investing in an ecommerce site to sell their products?

For Designers with retail outlet, limited editions work best and many i know sell as soon as the items are on the shelves. those without a retail space may do one of a kind. the fact is that very few indie designers have Retail establishments. There are several factors. Most do not have a business plan, model or strategy. They make, shoot , walk the runways. Some may not even sell! then their are those who sell as soon as an item is made, no production line set up. For those online You cannot find them. You will find indie designers lisited on online shopping sites as part of collectives whether they are selling or not reports from these designers are mixed. Several even use their online social network as their "store". There are the designers with online store built on flash platforms and poor search optimization. Unless you know there web url you will not find them. often time a designer builds their search and keywords around their brand, So that if you are looking fr a red sleeveless shirt , indie designer Brooklyn; label A who has that shirt has it listed as LABEL A Coral gate;- with a compelling copy that cannot be found via a search engine.
