let the Maker Mondays begin..

  • August 19, 2013 · 5:30 PM

hello all,

we are happy to host the first of many Maker Mondays, weekly gatherings to show, tell, mingle, bring your ideas, creations or just hang and enjoy. we hope these informal sessions will facilitate the making of new friends, connections and projects while exposing makerdom to a broader audience.

for the inaugural Maker Monday, we would like to announce fat cat fab lab's booth at

http://makerfaire.com/new-york-2013/ and discuss our project...

PopBot(aka Lucy)=an envirobotic love story

Lucy connects the story of human population growth with the quest for renewable energy and sustainability, having determined  that population is our common denominator.  Lucy does this by demonstrating miniaturized examples of renewable energy systems alongside a creative display of the world's evolving population, all mounted on a handsome cellphone-controlled Roomba/Arduino/5gal water bottle platform. some systems we plan to incorporate...

~ LED display with world population feed and custom graphics
~ solar hat powered jukebox, audio loop
~ pinwheel scale wind turbine/generator
~ turkey baster algae bioreactor
~ hydrogen fuel cell usb device charging courtesy of Project H2MDK
~ crank radio
~ regenerative clapping+hugging, utilizing ripcord kinetic chargers and self-inflating balloons/diaphragms with soda bottle compression batteries powering noisemakers.

~ your ideas?

if this project sounds fun and/or relevant, PopBot wants you.

we hope you will join us and that this build offers plenty of creative engineering and learning opportunities across a range of disciplines...plus, all contributor names will appear on PopBot's official ping pong ball of fame.
