John M. Compere, Or The Wall Will Come A-Tumblin’ Down: Report from the Texas Biblebelt Battleground
In a joint meeting with FFRF-VSUN and the Phoenix chapter of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, HSGP will present guest speaker, retired US Army General John Milsap Compere from Baird, Texas. General Compere is a cousin of our very own member also named John Compere, who will introduce his Texas kin. They are both descendants of the Rev. Lee Compere who came to America as a missionary to the Native Americans.
General Compere, now a retired Texas rancher, has had an illustrious career in the military, as a lawyer, as a judge, and as a writer. Many of his recent writings deal with the constitutional clarity of the first Amendment regarding church/state separation. He is the author of 74 published articles for local, state, and national bar associations, as well as being a News-Editorial Commentator for the Abilene Reporter, plus several other publications.
Further credentials include:
Law – 40+ years (US Army lawyer and Texas lawyer, mediator and arbitrator in Federal and State Courts).
Judicial – 4 years (Washington DC - Chief Judge of the US Army Court of Military Review, tenured federal court position, nominated by President and confirmed by Congress).
Military – 26 years, US Army & Army Reserve (started as Texas Tech ROTC cadet, began active duty as 101st Airborne Division paratrooper, served in Thailand, Vietnam, Honduras, Panama and USA, retired as Brigadier General and Vietnam Era Disabled Veteran.)
General Compere’s wife, Dee, is a local celebrity singer and will perform before her husband’s presentation.
The doors will open at 9:00 am for breakfast and socializing. The meeting will begin at 10:00 am.
