Bernadette:
This Meetup site is one that I pay for on a yearly basis and my attendees help with my costs by giving me donations at each meeting. It is a forum for people with Fibromyalgia. I haven't seen any information on you posted on your profile for the group. Do you suffer from Fibromyalgia?

I assume you are a distributer for Wallach's product line or you wouldn't be so defensive about people's comments. As I said I've been to one of his lectures and people are invited to attend by distributors as a rule. I have no problem with most Direct Sales companies.  Many of them have decent products. I believe proper supplementation is essential to healing from any disease but equally important is healing the gut so these products can be processed in the body.

I sell supplements from Metagenics Corporation and Designs for Health myself. Tthese companies sell expressly to medical or alternative medical professionals and have the research to back up all their claims for their products and are of pharmaceutical grade for purity. The only problem I do have with some of these direct sales companies is that they don't use third party testing for their products and what they say is on the label often is not.

But this is a forum for sharing information specific to Fibromyalgia and I think we have given Dr. Wallach more air time than he deserves. Fibromyalgia is a complicated disease that vitamin/mineral supplementation helps but the brain disorder is so much more complicated than taking a few products and we are well.  The central cause of Fibro has not been determined.  It may be a virus, low grade infection, pathogen that keeps the symptoms going and the immune system compromised.  Each case is different and comorbid conditions have to be under control to get the Fibro symptoms to ease.

Thank you for your input but this discussion is closed for now.

Peg,

If a person says, "I have high blood pressure"  and Doc says, "High blood pressure is the result of a calcium deficiency".  The people in the room can buy a calcium supplement from Youngevity or their local vitamin store.  The message that the cause is a calcium deficiency is the same.  The seminar, I will say again, is about educating people and letting them make their own choices.

Whether Dr. Wallach's family profits when their company sells vitamins or not, does not change the message he's bringing across because it is every person's choice what to do with the information. They can choose to take Youngevity Vitamins, they can choose to take the information and buy Vitamins from their local store or they can choose not listen to the message at all.

And, last time I checked, we live in America and free enterprise is good thing.  Just sayin'.  I mean when you go to see your Dr., don't they profit?  They may even get a kick back from the drug company who's meds they are pushing.  But, I digress, that's a different conversation.  Everyone needs to do their own research and form their own opinion for every Dr. they see.

And, I haven't said once that I think people should come, listen to him and buy Youngevity's vitamins.  I said come and listen, get the information and form your own opinion.  Knowledge is power, Peg.  And, Dr. Wallach doesn't teach popping a few pills like many Dr's do, he teaches proper nutrition.  It's not just what you eat that's killing you, it's what you don't that makes the difference.

No the message is not the same.  His family profits from the sale of vitamins and his cure is vitamins.  Nothing wrong with going and finding out what he has to say just know that his family is profiting from this cure.  So do your own research, get tested for vitamin and mineral deficiencies by your doc and only supplement what is deficient.  Also if you are deficient it means your diet probably needs tweaking and your guts need healing.  Getting better isn't as simple as popping a few pills.

Actually, he receive NO income from the vitamins.  He only earns money from his book sales.

Don't make assumptions and try to muddy the message he's bringing forth and the fact that he's helped thousands of people across the country.  Because, regardless of whether you use Youngevity's vitamins or other vitamins, the message is the same.

Let people listen to him and make they own decisions and form their own opinions.

I just looked up the parent company of Youngevity, Wallach's vitamin company.  There are two Wallachs at the head of the company: Steven is the CEO and Michelle is the COO.  Joel is the father. This means that his family benefits a LOT from the sale of the vitamins.  Technically he might not be paid for the individual lectures but I'm sure he is pulling a huge income from this company.

Go but realize that this is a marketing sales pitch.  They want you to sell their vitamins for them.

Yes Dr Wallach has been around for decades...

I want to clarify Betsy, his interest is to educate, he doesn't own Youngevity, though he founded it and he doesn't receive a dime from the sale of any vitamins.  And he doesn't receive a dime from the 385 plus free health lectures that he does every year.  I imagine if I did that many lectures, someone, somewhere might frustrate me and I might have an off day.  Personally, I've seen him speak 10 plus times and have never seen him rude to anyone.

He's also spent millions of dollars to fight the FDA, so that health claims can be made for the use of things like selenium and EFA's.  Any vitamin company can sell them and make health claims because he fought the FDA and won.  He didn't do that so Youngevity could sell vitamins, he did that so that everyone can know the health benefits of nutrition.

Like I said, it's an information lecture that people can learn from.  Everyone will take something different from the lecture.  And, you will be able to talk to real live people who have been in dibilitating conditions for years, who now have their lives back because of Dr. Wallach's message.

Dr. Wallach has been around for decades.  His information is interesting but his meetings are all about his products and getting people to purchase them. I'm sure people who are ill and have vitamin/mineral deficiencies would benefit from any product with essential supplementation. People with Fibromyalgia would fit into this classification.

Since my education and certifications are in supplementation and healing foods as well as Muscle Health and Wellness I know that mineral and vitamins are crucial to getting well, just know that his supplements are generic and he owns a Direct Sales company.

I actually went to one of his lectures with a friend in Arizona last year. Maybe he was in a bad mood but he was rude to several audience members that evening and I wasn't particularly impressed. At least for me he had nothing new to say but for someone new to the world of supplementation you might learn something of value.
