I've created this group as an opportunity for anxiety/panic sufferers to meet up and share their experiences, advice, knowledge and support to others who may be going through the same thing and would benefit from knowing that they are not alone with this dreadful black cloud over their lives.
I myself am a panic attack sufferer and as a result have read several books and vast materials online, practised therapies and techniques such as ‘belly breathing’ to help me along my journey of overcoming some of my ‘everyday’ fears. I would love to share these with members as well as learn from others on their personal experiences or discoveries.
A great book I recommend panic sufferers to read is 'Living with IT' by Bev Aisbett - this book gives a comical spin on panic disorders by depicting 'IT' as a cartoon character that looks somewhat like a monster/dragon (see group images) ... the pictures are guaranteed to make you laugh or at least smile while also giving some great advice on how to overcome anxiety.
Ideas for future Meetup events are welcome; the purpose is for members to share their struggles or accomplishments (no matter how big or small) and to be there for others who want to get over their fears one step at a time. Hope to get this group kicked off soon!
A few notes:
* I'm not in anyway a qualified therapist/counselor or licensed medical professional, so if you feel that you may not be able to tolerate an intimate group setting or social interaction without a qualified facilitator please consider this before RSVPing.
* This group is not meant to replace any medical services you are receiving, it is for support and educational purposes only.
* This is an open group so members are welcome to create Meetup events or post suggestions.
* Offers by members to step up as organizers and for financial support are also welcome.
