What is lifedrawing? It is the artistic study of the nude human figure from observation of a live model. In my opinion, it is the best way to learn how to draw.
The studios I post as Meetups meet at the Austin Visual Arts Association. We have 5 studios a week. Every day except Friday and Saturday!
Model fee At AVAA is $5.00. CASH only, no checks, and you must be 18 or over.
On Tuesday, no oil paints or solvents. I have more than one participant with either asthma or chemical sensitivities. Acrylics and watercolors are ok.
The other studios are oil paint friendly; however the Sunday afternoon studio requires that only non-volatile solvents be used; other studios stipulate odorless sovents.
Here are regular options throughout the week:
Saturday morning, 9:00am-12:00, Jim McIntyre's long pose sesssion at the Hancock Recreation Center, 811 East 41st Street, going strong for over 25 years!
AVAA , 2:00-5:00 pm. Usually 10 one-minute gestures, followed by two one-hour poses. Every other Sunday, the first half of each pose is nude, and the second half in costume.
AVAA has Monday evening lifedrawing, 7:00-10:00 pm. Check out the Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_172864042771059&ref=ts

ACC offers life drawing classes for college credit. So do St. Ed's & UT. Concordia offers drawing classes, but I do not believe they have lifedrawing. UT now only allows its art majors to take studio classes. And, good luck getting into the program!
