Let's enjoy a lazy Sunday morning breakfast of yummy ube pancakes with sweet coconut syrup and melted butter...mmmmm, so good.
Ninongs Pastries and Cafe is a local Granada Hills favorite. Only 4 days out of a month, they offer their popular ube pancakes. For $7.95 you get 3 ube pancakes, 2 eggs cooked to order, and choice of corned beef/longanisa/spam/sausage patty/or bacon. Beverages are extra.
I usually order the ube pancake special with 2 eggs over easy, corned beef and a side of rice (50cents). Total bill with tax (no tip needed) is $9. After this meal, I'm pretty much stuffed for the rest of the day.
This is the only cafe/coffee shop I know of that offers coffee (Barako) and herbal teas (ampalaya, lagundi, ginger, banaba) grown and harvested on the Philippine islands. If you're more of a chocolate person, you can try their intensely rich Filipino tableau hot chocolate.
If you're not in the pancake mood, this cafe also serves a full menu for breakfast and lunch. Try an asado or tocino baguette sandwich, longanisa empanada, or pandan cupcake.
Attire: Whatever you want. Pajamas are okay too.
Parking: Street parking only. The cafe is located at the corner of Chatsworth and White Oak. Free parking (no meters) north of Chatsworth along White Oak. Mind the signs and curb colors.
Cost: They take cash, visa, mastercard, discover, debit cards.
