The purpose of this Meetup is to provide a place to connect with established and aspiring talent in front of and behind the camera, as well as industry vendors and suppliers. Also, to provide workshops and classes taught by working industry professionals to develop our talent and skills so that we are selected for more work, and better paying jobs in the industry.
The tools to do this are:
A. Networking at Meetups
B. Message Boards
C. Members Skills Database
D. Social Media (see below)
E. Email Feature on the Members Profiles
We will also encourage filmmakers and talent to create movie and web projects by providing screenings.
The tools to do this:
A. Weekend Shoot Screenings
B. Open Screen Night
C. SceneShoot101 Classes
D. Other ideas as we progress
How we use these tools:
Every facet of this group is important, but the networking / Meetup is imperative. We will continue to meet at various venues around town (if you have any suggestions let me know) schedule guests speakers, screen trailers and actor reels, eat and drink, and other activities in an effort to meet like-minded people who will help with your project, or find a project that you can get involved with.
I am encouraged when I hear that someone found crew at a meetup, or was cast in a role by someone they met, and especially if they got a paying gig through a connection at the meetup.
It's also important to obtain and share information about other groups that hold meetings, classes, websites, etc. If you're in a screen writer's group, or doing something with the Daily's, or know about classes for directors offered at a studio, going to an event for Women in Film, whatever groups you think could benefit the rest of us, share that information with the group.
Also, we need to utilize the message boards in this group, more. They are as important a tool as the meetup. No one can make every meeting. Some people are restricted by time and/or distance from making any meetings. But they can and do post to the Message Boards: casting calls, classes and workshops, need for crew, screenings of their movies, information about their skills, etc.
Also, the Members Skills Database will help you use the Members Profile email feature to contact someone with specific skills, or seeking to improve a specific skill.
Open Screen Nights and other screenings are to encourage people to create projects and to provide a place for seasoned movie makers, but also for beginners that might not be ready for a festival, but who deserve the chance to see their work on a screen with an audience. The best way to learn is to do. And if you are not a beginner, but need a selfish reason to support the screenings ... well, the best way to end up working with the best up-and-coming movie makers is to support them while they are coming up. And we also need to work together; you can't make much of a movie with one person and a tripod. Well, maybe you can, and if so, we'd love to screen it.
