This month we will see a film I have always wanted to see, and one this is especially relevant to contemporary international events.
The Battle of Algiers by director Gillo Pontecorvo (Italy, 121 Minutes, B&W, 1966, French and Arabic with subtitles). Blu Ray version. Complete with female bombers and water boarding, this film shows what we were getting into decades before we started the recent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
I hope you are as excited about it as I am and hope to see you Monday! Below are some awards and info about the film.
Winner, Grand Prize Venice Film Festival, Banned in France in 1965, Screened by the Pentagon in 2003. Based on actual events. Academy Award nominations for Best Screenplay, Foreign Film, and Director.
Since the champagne was such a hit last time, we will be enjoying as much as you can swallow this time!
David
