* Hear first hand what it is like to rescue wild animals

* Meet and hear from Anne Lloyd-Jones (Australian Director, Animals Asia Foundation)

Asia is home to many exotic wild animals, but currently many are abused and mis-treated. Martin Guinness is a Sydney-based film maker who took part in the rescue of bears and a captive elephant and made a short documentary on each of these expeditions.
Animals Asia is devoted to ending the barbaric practice of bear bile farming and improving the welfare of animals in China and Vietnam. They promote compassion and respect for all animals and work to bring about long-term change. The Animals Asia team has been rescuing bears since 1994 and is the only organisation with a bear sanctuary in China.
Director Martin Guinness will be appearing on the night to do a short introduction to each film. 'Cages Of Shame' Over 10,000 bears in China live in tiny cages for up to 30 years with a tube permanently rammed into their gallbladders, to drain their bile for traditional Chinese (so-called) medicine. This is the story of the dramatic rescue of 10 bears. Duration: 47 mins
'Walk To Freedom' An emotional journey that reveals the mistreatment of elephants in Thailand and follows a rescue, mountain trek and release of a former trekking elephant to its freedom.
An international group travel to Thailand and go behind the scenes at a Thai trekking park. They uncover the awful conditions that the elephants are kept in and the cruel way in which the elephants are trained. The team recruit a group of trekkers to rescue an elephant and embark on a journey to release the elephant into the freedom of a sanctuary near the Burmese border.
Duration: 52 mins
