My name is Alex Simmon, I am an Industrial Designer based out of Chicago. I graduated from Auburn University in 2012 and am ready to get my career started. I have a strong interest in development, research, and strategy; I look at the big picture.

What do you kickass at the most? Where would you love to work?

I kickass at problem solving. It's something I really enjoy doing, so it doesn't seem like work to me, it's just a puzzle. Every assignment, every task is always some type of problem that needs to be solved, and the solving is my favorite part. I think differently than my peers, I make different connections, I apply all of this to every task I'm given and excel at coming up with something new, something that has never been thought of before. Because of this, I would love to work, I need to work, at a faced-paced job. Some place where the environment doesn't restrict creativity; where unique thinking is praised not condemned. I know how to talk to people, I know how to relate, know how to empathize, know how to give the client what they are looking for; I just need the place where I can do that.

Tell us about something you really enjoy

I really enjoy making connections; whether those connections involve people or just making correlations between different things. I have a strong interest in the business aspect of everything. As an industrial designer, I have experience working with companies and creating something. Whether that something is an exhibit, a pamphlet, a product, it is always a solution to something. No matter the problem I'm given, I always do a ton of research. I want to know about the company I'm working for; I want to know their goals, their image, their competitors, their strengths, and most importantly, their weaknesses. I love taking all of this information I have attained and applying it to the project at hand. Everything I do has to have a meaning, and has to do something to move me closer to reaching that end goal. I would love to say that the end goal is what I take the most pride in, and I do, but the process is what gives me the most joy; how I got there is my real motivation.
