PRACTICE SAILING AND GET AUTHORIZED TO USE OUR BOATS ON YOUR OWN!

Ready to use the sailboats at Fire Island Cabin on your own? Members who are experienced sailors with strong basic sailing skills can come out for evaluation to become “authorized” to sail one of our boats on your own.

Practice and coaching from FIC Instructor is offered. This is a good place to develop your skills and build confidence to prepare for your authorization evaluation, with supervision from our instructor. Anyone who has completed our weekend or mid-week sail class is welcome to attend.

Wed.- Thu.- Come for either, or both days. To register for either day,
1. RSVP here on this site. 2. If you are coming for the day, Pay $15 day guest fee upon arrival 3. IF YOU ARE STAYING OVERNIGHT and sailing both days, call the cabin directly to reserve a bunk ($40 per night, lodging only) call cabin[masked], Reservation hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mon.- Thu. only.

Contact Captain Michael Miller [masked] for questions re your experience and goals.

Upon Arrival check-in with Manager/pay day guest fee, and ask for the sail Instructor.

This is NOT a learn to sail class! You must have basic ability to sail a boat independently, or do not attend this session. Those who do not know how to sail should enroll in learn to sail weekend or Mid-week Sail Schools.

Thanks Richard Bailey for your help. I did not get a chance to say goodbye. After sailing I had to get back to New York quickly for a work obligation.
    Beautiful day on the water.

Thanks Mike, we were planning to stay overnight but it seems that all the beds are booked - do you think we can sleep in our sleeping bags by the boats on the bayside? I really don't want drive back and forward to NJ. Leo

Yeah bunks are booked, I'll be coming in this afternoon and staying overnight to get sailing tomorrow morning, catching the 5:30 ferry out of Atlantique back to Bayshore. One day is good!

I don't know what the official word is - but I imagine you could sleep outdoors in a bag. Bring food to cook / eat for your meals. and bug spray!

    Leo:

Bayshore Marina- You can park for free next to the dock. Tell the gate you are taking ferry to AMC Cabin. drive all the way to end of marina and park in front of restaurant. There are 2 ferries going direct to Atlantique each day at 10 and noon. Two returning each day at 3:30 and 5:30. This lasts until Labor Day.

    Enjoy!

AMC Fire Island sailing practice, Thursday and Friday, 8/14 & 15 Please insure that you are an AMC member and that you have attended an AMC sailing school at Fire Island or have recent experience in a Sunfish. If you are driving and staying overnight, the best way to get there is to take the 10 AM ferry from the Bay Shore Marina (not the ferry terminal) You can park close to the dock at the marina overnight for $10. Any questions, call Dick Bailey, home[masked] until 9 AM Sunday. After that,[masked], 9 AM-8 PM
