In keeping with the month of Hallowe'en, our choice of reading (and viewing if you choose) is Stephen King's first published novel (1974) about a shy high school girl who has telekinetic powers which allow her to exact revenge on those who have made her life miserable. The book is one of the most frequently banned books in the public schools. It has been adapted for film (1976, 1992, 2002, 2013) and as a Broadway musical (1988). King has said about the book, "it was a young book by a young writer. In retrospect, it reminds me of a cookie baked by a first grader — tasty enough, but kind of lumpy and burned on the bottom." The book has sold more than four million copies.
