This will be a public conversation (or very civil debate) about the existence of god.

In defense of theism will be Dr. Sloan Lee. Dr. Lee has a Ph.D. in philosophy from Wayne State University, teaches philosophy, logic and christian apologetics at the Cambridge School of Dallas, and organizes the Dallas Socratic Society.

In defense of non-theism will be Dr. Justin Fisher. Dr. Fisher has a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Arizona and teaches philosophy of mind and philosophy of biology at Southern Methodist University.
Each side will present three of the strongest arguments for their side; they'll then discuss each of these six arguments in turn; and they'll conclude by taking audience questions.
This event is cosponsored by the SMU Secular Humanist student group and Dallas Baptist University Ratio Christi group. The conversation will be moderated by John Ferrer, a leader for the DBU Ratio Christi group.

Note: This event had been originally scheduled to be at DBU in March. There was a mixup in the room reservation at DBU, so this event has been rescheduled to April 9th, and relocated to SMU.

It seems it could be best summed up by simply looking at the two handouts. They look like the question "Do you walk to work or carry a lunch?" I am absolutely sure that my lack of a philosophical background involving the esoterica introduced was not to my advantage. It was very educational and I am quite glad that I was able to attend.

Definitely enjoyed my first meetup with FOF. I thought Dr. Fisher's arguments were original and very entertaining. I also enjoyed Dr. Lees commentary, but I felt like he was merely playing devil's advocate than a true believer, but who knows. Gotta give him credit for driving down a difficult road.

Can someone tell me that I don't understand Lee's ontological argument (the second one on the page about the greatness of being) because it doesn't make any logical sense or because I lack an understanding of the finer points of philosophy?

Is anyone driving down from or through Richardson? I'll get a ride back home from Justin, but if I can get a ride to the event, I'd appreciate it.

Folks who are free an hour early might want to join the Dallas-Plano Atheists for a quick pre-debate dinner at nearby Zoe's Kitchen. http://www.meetup.com/Dallas-Pl...![]()

I was wondering if you could pass along the Transform Southwest Gathering (April 5th & 6th @ Brite Divinity) along to folks you know in the DFW area? The gathering is Christian in flavor but quite progressive with a focus on how Christians can be IN the world where they are needed. Thanks!
