Family Meal for Teens at Youth First Texas

The mission of Youth First Texas is To provide a safe space for LGBTQ youth and their allied friends to strengthen opportunities for life skills, leadership development, peer support and educational advancement.

Friday nights they have a family style meal, and for many teens this is the only nourishing meal they get during that week!

It would be nice to think that the kids that were there are the only ones in need of support. That said, whomever cut up the tomatoes was awesome! (So were the other things, but the container of diced tomatoes looked professionally done. If it was, let me revel in my ignorance.

This is absolutly something I have been looking to share with my children. Volunteer/Help. Unfortunatly, the drive is risky for us. :-( I hope we can find something like this to contribute to.

Hello Melody. sorry I didn't see this until yesterday evening. I leave from Farmers Branch and am always willing to drive (I mean, it's how I get there anyways).

Any chance this ever happens later or on the weekend? I'd be interested but my commute doesn't make 6 pm on weekdays easy.

The Youth First staff always has the family meal on Friday. I'll ask about the time but you know how hungry teenagers get!

Any plans to make this a recurring outreach event?

Can my children eat tacos with the kids while we serve?
or can I fix them a side plate and they can eat somewhere else?
We are planning on bringing taco meat...

Melanie, what is age limit on this?

    March 16

    • Melanie Clemmer

No age limit that I know of. Just for the sake of saying it for all to hear--as long as the young'uns can help or sit quietly doing their own thing they are welcome. :D

Thanks. Ary has been sick, but if she recovers in time to pass the contagious window, we will be there
