Social Science @ the Perot Museum: Superstitions

Exclusive after-hours engagements for adults (must be 21 or older). Think entertaining mini science conference with adult beverages. :)

The topic for this event is "Superstitions".

A note from the Perot:
"Can you break a mirror, step in front of a black cat, and walk under a ladder? Challenge your friends to a superstitious obstacle course and check out the latest psychological research. Have your fortune read, journey through the universe in our Portable Universe planetarium, meet superstitious athletes, and take in a performance or two.

A perfect date night or fun evening with friends. Discover the Perot Museum after hours, for a unique evening filled with innovative experiments, current research, signature cocktails, dynamic performances, engaging discussions, unique inventions, and more.."

Social Science programs feature:
- Dynamic performances
- Sneak peeks of current research and inventions with guest scientists
- Unique demonstrations
- Exclusive talks and discussions with experts
- Hands-on experiments and creations
- Bars, signature cocktails, and cool brews

Get your tickets before they sell out! <-- Don't say I didn't warn you.

Pricing:
Members $13
Non-Members $18

The Perot also offers a combo ticket with the World's Largest Dinosaurs exhibit. My recommendation would be to see that exhibit at a different time than when Social Science is occurring as there will be plenty of activities during Social Science to keep you busy. But if you don't think you'll make a second trip, then by all means see the exhibit while you're there. In that case I would recommend the 10pm time as Social Science will be winding down then.

Last time drink prices were: $3 for a soda, $6 for beer or wine, $9 for a cocktail. They sell drink tickets at the event so bring some cash.

Also, people that want to meet up early usually go to El Fenix across the street for food and drink. The cafe will also be open in the museum if you want to eat there.

See website for ticket purchase and info.

It's Social Science day! Some people grab a bite and a drink beforehand at El Fenix across the street, so feel free to join. Otherwise the best time to catch the group is from 7-7:30 either outside before you enter the museum (if the weather is nice) or inside at the main lobby / bar. See you all there!

People are usually there by 6 pm. It's a quick bite and a drink since the event starts at 7. I'll post when I get there. I have Fellowship of Freethought stickers this time so it should be easier to find us.

I have two extra tickets if any one would like them. Courtesy of the Flying Spaghetti Monster! My wife and I will be eating at Mesomaya around six. Hope to be out front of the Perot by 7:15.

What do people usually wear to these shindigs?

    • Lauren

Hey Christy, I haven't been to a meetup with this group before, but I've been to these social science things at the museum. People are in a variety of stuff. Some people wear dresses and heels, but other people are in jeans. I'd say wear something comfortable, because there are sometimes things to do which require sitting on the floor, jumping, etc.

You can definitely dress up if you like to, but if you don't they will let you in just the same. ;)

I am so looking forward to the obstacle course! I have been practicing walking under ladders and used my black dog as a cat-surrogate for practice and I am confident I can make it!
