The Road and anything by Cormac McCarthy, Faulkner, Hemingway. I highly suggest a series of books by Robert Wilson, starting with the Blind Man of Seville. World War II and Cold War espionage βLe Carre, Furst). Anything with Nazis. Martin Cruz Smith (Gorky Park and other books with Arkady Rendko). Series of Berlin Noir by Philip Kerr. Not well known.. Sorry to go on so long, but I think anyone into fiction will enjoy these.
