The Appalachian Spring SOJO (in our new location)

  • May 4, 2013 · 2:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Singing with your friends at SOJO is one of life's simple gifts!  See you there!

We're now meeting in a new location!  While our regular meeting place is being renovated, we've had to come up with an alternative location for the next few months. Please be sure to log in and check out the new address when you RSVP. More detailed directions and parking info can be found in a File dated February 7 under the More tab.

If you're a seasoned SOJO'er, you already know the program, but below are all the details which may be helpful to our new members.

1. If you have a copy of Rise Up Singing, please bring it. If you don't, we may have some extras available for you to borrow (one time only, please) or buy from us.
2. Feel free to bring lyrics to hand out, preferably with chords, for songs not in the book.
3. Bring something to drink, as singing is likely to make you thirsty.
4. We appreciate but do not require, any contributions ($4, or whatever) to help pay for renting the room.
5. Please do RSVP. It helps us know how to set up the room. RSVP by clicking "Yes" above the other attendees' names.
FURTHER DETAILS, if you like:
* Our regular gatherings take place on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month.  We meet from 2 to 5 p.m. with a break around 3:30. You can come for the whole time or just part of it. If you can arrive early to help set up and so we have a musical quorum to start, that would be great.
* Click on "Pages" for additional information such as our format and other good things to know; click on "Photos" for pictures of some of our gatherings; click on "More," then "Files" to check out the wide variety of songs we've sung at previous SOJOs.
Whether you're new to SOJO or not so new, we look forward to singing and/or jamming with you!

Thanks Jay, now I remember! "Changes" was done at a slower tempo than the Ian & Sylvia version that I remember. I always love Phil Ochs lyrics and I've always though "Changes" was particularly beautiful.

Thanks again to my SOJO friends for indulging me while I practiced my song for an upcoming performance. It really helps to try it out in front of a live audience! Best, Jim

Had a great time Saturday. I noticed that Phil Ochs "Changes" is in Rise Up Screaming - I know it from Ian & Sylvia and it's an old favorite. Does any one else know the melody? I hate to call out a song no one else knows.

I enjoyed it as well. It always great to get together and sing. And, yes, I know the melody to Changes.

Hi Marianne. "Changes" was my selection at the May 4th SOJO. It went OK in the Rise Up key, but I think it was a little low for me and the group. If we do it again, perhapswe should try it in G. Be well! Jay

social media confusion from a digitally challenged almost-senior-citizen: why doesn't my photo show up in the "attended" column for yesterday's event?

Last time I tried to sing Ola Belle Reed's "I've Endured", but since I cant lead without some assistance I didn't get very far. If anyone wants to look it up, here is a Youtube recording:

Is the group "Ollabelle" at all connected with Ola Belle?

Thanks for sharing this song Seton! I will work on it tonight. There are some good opportunities for harmonizing!

Can newbie guitarists join in? I know basic chords and can barre. I can strum also. Let me know if you will tolerate newbies?
