The Infamy SOJO

  • Dec 7, 2013 · 2:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

When darkness comes and pain is all around, like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down.  Music lifts us up.  Let's make some at the next SOJO.

Since Feb.2013, we've been meeting in a new location!  While our old Crystal City meeting place is being renovated, we've had to come up with an alternative location at least temporarily. Please be sure to log in and check out the new address when you RSVP. More detailed directions, closest Metro and parking info can be found in a File "uploaded on Feb 7, 2013" under the "More" tab.

If you're a seasoned SOJO'er, you already know the program, but below are all the details which may be helpful to our new members.

MOST IMPORTANT POINTS:

1. If you have a copy of Rise Up Singing, please bring it. If you don't, we may have some extras available for you to borrow (one time only, please) or buy from us.
2. Feel free to bring lyrics to hand out, preferably with chords, for songs not in the book.  If you'd like to bring a song that most people don't know well, see if you can find a youtube link and post it in the comments when you RSVP.  We'd like to listen a few times before the SOJO to get the hang of it.
3. Bring something to drink, as singing is likely to make you thirsty.
4. We appreciate but do not require, any contributions ($4, or whatever) to help pay for renting the room.
5. Please do RSVP. It helps us know how to set up the room. RSVP by clicking "Yes" above the other attendees' names.
-----------------------------------------
FURTHER DETAILS, if you like:
* Our regular gatherings take place on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month.  We meet from 2 to 5 p.m. with a break around 3:30. You can come for the whole time or just part of it. If you can arrive early to help set up and so we have a musical quorum to start, that would be great.
* Click on "Pages" for additional information such as our format and other good things to know; click on "Photos" for pictures of some of our gatherings; click on "More," then "Files" to check out the wide variety of songs we've sung at previous SOJOs.
Whether you're new to SOJO or not so new, we look forward to singing and/or jamming with you!

Really enjoyed Galveston... check out Glen Campbell doing it early this century ... and tearing it up on guitar at the end.
They say music career has pretty much ended, but still great to see this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0nMPVwdmjk

I'll be helping decorate an historic building in Alexandria in the morning and might end up helping out in other activities later in the day as well. If I'm finished in time I'll be at SOJO. If you're interested - the annual Scottish parade in Alexandria is at 11 a.m. on Sat 7th and the boat parade starts at 5 p.m. If it's not too cold I might be part of the parade!

It was a beautiful day for joining a parade! And the massed bands were great - worth even missing SOJO!.

I will be a little late in getting to the gathering. I thought I had a copy of Sing Out here with me, but I guess I must have left it in Michigan.

Some late breakin' plans came up -- so I have to decline for this weekend. But will be back for the next one.

Hi, all, I have to miss because I'll be performing! Come hear Xmas songs (and one quasi-not-really Hannukah song) on Friday the 6th at 7:30 or Saturday the 7th at 7:30 (but not Sat the 7th at 2, as you should attend SOJO then) in Alexandria - http://www.alexandriasingers.com/ for more information. We're a pops choir, so imagine "Let it Snow" and "Mistletoe and Holly" rather than "Adeste Fideles". Matt, who sometimes comes to SOJO, has a solo (in "Please Come Home For Christmas" - Aaron Neville).

And if you do come, please mention that you heard about it from Judy, so I have a shot at winning the blue bauble we compete for in bringing in audience members.

Yes indeed, that Matt. He is doing a lovely job with it.

Oy! I'm out of town on 12/7, so I need to miss this one. But I'll be back for the next SOJO. So happy to have found you all.

I'll miss this one but hope to make the next. Maybe sing a Navy song to remember Pearl Harbor.
