I've played in orchestras and chamber groups but the only folk music I've played before an audience was old time fiddle for dance bands and its been a number of years. I just returned to playing in late December and am making good progress.
I play violin (fiddle), mandolin, played classical piano and viola for many years. I also do a little flatpicking on guitar.
I couldn't settle on just one. Whose ever on stage this week at the Birchmere when I'm there, most likely.
That can change, but some of my all time favorites "Church Street Blues" and "Slow Train through Georgia" (Norman Blake); "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" (Richard Thompson); assorted Townes Van Zandt songs, Dave Alvin, Steve Earle - I could go on.
