Introduction

Rise Up Singing has been part of my life as long as I can remember, and I love the idea of jamming out with other folk music enthusiasts!

Have you ever performed music in front of an audience (not counting Karaoke or social jams)?

Yes; throughout grade school I performed with my school's orchestra, and in high school for a while I was part of a Christian death metal band...I try not to talk about it...

Do you play or are you learning a musical instrument? If so, which?

Long ago I was trained on the cello and viola, but it's been several years since I've picked up either one. I've messed around on the acoustic guitar since I was 7 or 8, but I'm not great. (So I sing loudly to camouflage my sloppy chords!)

Who's your #1 favorite folk or folk-rock performer?

My dad. :)

What are some of your favorite folk or folk-rock songs?

Anything by Paul Simon, Almanac Singers, Fairport Convention, The Weavers, and a lot of songs by those wonderful unrecorded artists you happen across playing small venues.

  • you lived in a strawbale house, ohh my dream. i'd love to see your solar oven. i like preparing raw foods and just bought a dehydrator because i am disempowered with DIY building. but today i had a revelation about building my own furniture using recycled stuff around the house. we have a lot of wood that used to be shelves but we can't get them together like they're 'supposed' to be. just moved into bethesda with a huge yard and beginning to grow food, waiting for harvests.
    Whats precycling?

  • Jas, I was wondering if we could talk about chickens (in a hush hush sort of way. I am writing an article about how there are people who keep chickens in their backyards in urban and suburban settings, the tentative title is "Chicken Confidential.". Not that I think you are one, just that you seem to know something about that topic, ;) Please email me at [masked] or call [masked].
