OK, with Jenn's message below, I'm turning off the mail list moderator mode to make it easier to communicate.  For those who don't like a lot of mail in their inbox, I'd suggest setting up a folder into which Meetup message will automatically be placed so as not to get mixed in with everything else.  Then you can read your Meetup messages at your leisure.

Jenn's referring to our church, the Celebration Center of Religious Science in Falls Church (although less "my" church as I haven't gone much lately, but the Religious Science philosophy rocks).  And Jenn, I already discussed CCRS as an alternative location several months ago with Rev Trish and she was fine with it.  I believe she quoted $35 an hour for the sanctuary and less in the loft.  She gave me the impression it was negotiable, too, because she was delighted at the idea of a music group renting space!

Dear Rick,
I've mostly been on the sidelines since I only came to sing once... but do support your initiative in creating SOJO & still have the intention of coming.
I think CCRS could be a location used for this musical meeting purpose. I would have to check, but it might be a good alternative. It is metro accessible. There's  a short bus ride from the train & parking is abundant. Let me know if you want me to look into it.
   best wishes & hugs,

Best Folkies in the World,

Change is in the air. I have mixed emotions in letting you know that although I am welcoming some changes in my career, it saddens me to have to inform you that SOJO as we?ve come to know it in Crystal City will soon be coming to an end.

Hold on. That?s not to say that SOJO itself is coming to an end. Oh no, we all have way too much heart and soul invested in what we?ve accomplished over the last ten months we?ve been in existence.

In mid-February, I will be moving out of the building where we?ve held our sing/jams, and putting my stuff in storage locally. Then I will hit the road to begin working in Las Vegas (Viva Las Vegas!) for four months. After my four month stint, there is a chance I may stay on indefinitely(I?d say about a 50/50 chance at this point). If I come back to the DC area, I will be living in Silver Spring, MD. I have already identified a new home for SOJO in Silver Spring similar to our present digs and very close to metro. So all is not lost. Far from it.

While I?m gone, I very much want you all to continue the wonderful times we?ve had. We?ve created something too good to bring to a premature end. I will continue to fund the Meetup system until around mid-March. That should give you all plenty of time to communicate with each other to reorganize during my absence and make sure this good thing continues. In March, there are a couple of alternatives to ensure continuity of communication among SOJO members:

1. Someone else steps forward to take on the responsibility of paying the $19 monthly Meetup fee (discounts are available if paid in advance- see the Meetup website for more information).
2. The Meetup website for SOJO is discontinued and you all communicate with each other in an email group. I?d suggest forming a Yahoo group for that purpose. It would serve almost the same purpose as the Meetup website and it?s free! If I come back to the DC area and revive SOJO in Silver Spring, I will start up a new Meetup group from scratch, so we'll need a good email network in any case so I can notify everyone.

I also think it would be a good idea if more people volunteer to be co-organizers to help Margi out during the reorganization phase. I can?t even be sure Margi is willing to be the main organizer in my absence as I haven?t discussed this with her individually yet. Please make your intention known and I?ll set you up in the system as a co-organizer, or we can talk more about this and related issues such as alternative locations after the ?introductions? when we meet this Saturday, and during the break.

I won?t be available to host any SOJOs in Crystal City in February, so I?m scheduling January 26 to be the last SOJO in our present location. So don?t miss it!

More than ever,
Keep on singin,' jammin,' and smilin,'
Rick
